The Confession
I know that a lot of people in the gay community do not think that James McGreevey should be classified as a hero.But as a gay man who struggled with trying to be the "Best Little Boy in Town", I can emphasize with him.Trying to live in a straight world all the while knowing that you are different takes a tremendous toll on your personality and your self worth.

All of New Jersey and the country were probably anticipating the release of former Governor Jim Mcgreevey's book. Some of the hype may have been due to the scandal involving his sexual encounters. I am completing the book and am very impressed with the wealth of information included.
The people have lost a great man
Isn't it sad that we dispose of gay people like they were garbage once it is found out that someone is gay?Governor McGreevey was an excellent politician, with a keen intellect.Who knows what good he could have done for the people of this country had he stayed in politics?Instead, we force people like this to resign.This is a great loss to society.Many gay and lesbian people have great gifts to offer and yet...we throw them out with the bath water.It is our loss, not their's. ... wish I had gotten it at the library
This work was well-drawn, as is all of Bechdel's work.It was also incredibly boring, kind of aimless, self-absorbed catharsis.I also thought we'd get to know more about her father's life, thoughts, feelings...along with hers.
Not your typical family. Terrific drawings.

What a fabulous find
I stumbled into this book and couldn't be happier about it.I knew nothing about Alison Bechdel other than what I read in the author's blurb on the dust cover so I certainly wasn't brought to the book by the lesbian aspect.Nor had I ever read a memoir graphic so that wasn't a hook either.

Definitely kept my attention
This was my first E. Lynn Harris novel.I bought it because it was the only African American fiction at the airport I was in at the time.I completely finished the book over the course of my roundtrip flights, so it is definitely a page turner.Light, easy reading to take your mind off things.

A thought-provoking collection of Mapplethorpe's sex picture
This collection of pictures is bound in a good quality cover and printed on a glossy paper of reasonable quality. One word: Ouch
You can always debate whether this book is "art" or not, but thefact is I am worried about what happened to some of the subjects. Helmut? Are you okay?I think Mapplethorpe wanted to shock, and he did, but Ifound the pictures had too much pain in them to be appreciated.I wasdeadened to what Mapplethorpe wanted to say, if he wanted to say anythingat all.Ouch, ouch, ouch.

A perfect breathing guide
The book explains starting from the meaning of yoga, the pranayama, the respiratory system, the techniques of pranayama, to the hints of doing the yogic art of breathing.
An excellent work!
As far as I know, it is the only work that gives such complete instructions for this very important aspect of yoga.It deserves more attention.

Too much in depth, not simple
You need a teacher, if you want to go in depth with Pranayama or yoga.Try following books instead of B.K.S. Iyengar's book and see for yourself:

It's a mistake to start reading this book because it's hard to do anything else. It's a banal statement to say one is impressed with a book for, say, it's style of writing or it's content or because he/she may say something with which you wholeheartedly agree, but I wholeheartedly agree with the Reverend White's words and I confess, it has put fear in my heart. His incredible objectivity--and it cannot have been easy--make it clear that there's a lot of vigilance one is going to need in the days ahead on any number of issues. It was especially helpful to me since I am not a protestant, to know the difference between evangelicalism and fundamentalism. I have a divinity school degree from Berkeley but cannot remember any time the meaning of these two words/concept became an issue.

Too Much With No Warning
Too much "alternative" sex that I was unprepared for--I stopped at disc 8.The cover on my version from the public library has a pair of pink shoes on it, which I kept wondering if they were going to have something to do with the title.I have wondered why male crossdressing is so popular, why not female?That's why I got the book, I guess.It somewhat answered my question--it used to be popular.What's in swings out and vice versa.It's a pendulum effect.

Love, Sex, and Basketball!
This book is wonderful. Romancing the Zone is a classic book where the main message is dreams and family are the most important in life. You can achieve the impossible if you are in the right frame of mind. Kenna White tells the story of a single mother with dreams of finishing college and her final year of playing womens basketball. Can Liz balance her real life (owning and running her restraunt and keeping tabs on her 19 year old daughter)and shooting hoops and maintaining a near perfect grade point average in college? Not to mention the hots that she may have for her and her daughter's coach...Sheridan Ross. Coach Ross has her own issues: being new head coach and turning last years team into winners. RTZ is loaded with humor, love, sex, secrets, and basketball! A great combination! This book is well worth the time...which it didn't take long because you don't want to put it down.

Playing with Heart
There are lots of novels in this genre, dozens and dozens.Some are very good; some are poorly written and edited, poorly presented, barely readable.Made for TV movies are sometimes good, sometimes sappy and romantic, sometimes very bad.Yet every once in a while, there's just nothing else on the tube, and we find ourselves sitting through the type of movie we normally wouldn't select: it's just not our type of story, it's a weepy romance.It's been done before.

If you want to understand Lesbianism - Read this book!!
Lesbian Epiphanies deserves MORE than 5 stars!! The best book out there on understanding WHY some women come out late in life. I being one of them came out in my later years and wondered WHY I missed not coming out earlier. This book from the 25 life studies explains why. It seems we all have [almost] the same or similar stories and making the discovery of being a Lesbian and understanding WHY I was born this way, as I know I was having loved women ALL my life, it just takes a little *push* to finally go over the edge of society's regulations and come out - OUT & PROUD.
I'm so glad to know that I am not alone...
Karol Jensen managed to communicate and clearly explain the life transformation that I experienced around the same age.I was married for over twenty years when I discovered that I experience my most happiestmoments when I was in the company of other women. When I turned 40, I wentthrough a major metomorphisis - realizing that what I truly wanted, myhusband was not capable of giving me, and until I read this book, I hadfeelings of guilt for wanting to be with a woman. But discovering that thesigns were there for many years, even as an adolescent, I have finallyaccepted my self, and I encourage any middle age woman who is strugglingwith this problem to read this book, and pray, and know that God does notmake any mistakes, He wants us to be happy. A Mixed Bag...
Julia Glass's Three Junes is a somewhat successful, somewhat disjointed narrative following a Scottish family through two generations, from their own perspective and from those of another whose life intertwines with theirs. The first part of the novel, 'Collies' is by far the strongest and describes how Paul both fell in love with and married Maureen and the aftermath of her death. The chronology, as others have noted, is slightly convoluted, but in this section it is much clearer than later in the novel. It is in these first few pages that I think Glass dazzled the National Book Award committee as her ability to subtley capture Paul's mourning as well as reveal a terrible secret really shows of her skills as an author; these skills, however, desert her in the other two parts of the novel. The second part of the novel is told in the first person through the eyes of Fenno, one of the three boys Paul and Maureen have. His story is by far the most interesting, but somewhat crudely done - the beautiful range of emotion that we experiences in the opening pages is replaced by something I still can't fully describe, other than say everything seems more clumsily done causing me to wonder why Glass even chose to continue her story, as the first part was published originally on its own. Fenno's role as caretaker to Mal, an opera and music critic often seems unbalanced. The final section finds us learning about some characters who we originally only see on the periphery of Fenno's narrative, who presumably are supposed to enhance our understanding of this family. Unfortunately, Glass seems to preoccupied with filling the pages with cliches about love and trying to leave the reader with some deeper understanding of live and relationships that she forgets to really finish her tale. I really do think she should have stopped the story after the first part.
Just okay
I was disappointed with the novel, based on the fact it was a National Book Award winner.Perhaps it was too "literary" for me, but I found myself not really caring about the characters.Although I'm far from a prude, I felt the parts about the gay character was way more than I needed/wanted to know.
Three Junes -Where did They Get That Name?
Sometime ago I read my Sunday paper and noted that "Three Junes" was listed as a popular book choice.The title sounded interesting so I bought it.That was 2 months ago and I am still trying to get through the paperback edition.It is difficult to follow the timeline, to understand the characters and where they fit, and to get involved in the storyline.I will finish the book because that's my style.It has not been a book that I could not wait to get back to.

Hoping for moreJake
This just doesn't make 4 stars, although I was rooting for it."Lesbian" or not it's competition is the general genre of "cop" or "detective thriller", and in that category it doesn't make it as anything new or original; actually it abounds with sterotypes.Sadly, it was too predictable for me, but I fell for Jake.Yes, the scenery descriptions are wonderful, but that "ain't" why I read thrillers.They are "thrillers", after all!I underestand (I think) the role sex plays in novels of this kind, and Ms Hill writes her explicit scenes quite well, too well.They are of erotica not "romance."Explicitness for its own sake is fine and I enjoy it, but here it was over-the-top and unnecessary.We do not need descriptions of digital explorations to have a novel unfold.No pun intended.
THE BEST I'VE READ IN A LONG TIME
this is one of the best books I have read in a very long time, once I started reading I couldn't put it down. Loving the characters i'm hoping for a sequel.

Great mystery and romance in Denver and the woods of Colorado
"Jake" McCoy is a detective, who has taken some leave time after being injured in the line of duty and Nicole Westbrook is a psychologist and closeted lesbian. The two meet in the wilds of Colorado where Jake is recuperating and Nicole is vacating. Nicole is hopelessly lost when she meets Jake. Their attaction sizzles and they have great sex in a hot spring.

Interesting `How To' and `What With' Manual (3.5*s)
One could wonder if there is a need for this book? The author makes no attempt to supply any data concerning how widespread the desire or practice is for straight girls wanting to engage with other females. Her data collection seems to be rather limited - hardly scientific. In any event, the book is interesting and informative.
overhyped and basically useless
Ok lets get down to why you should save your money and NOT get this book. First of all the author dedicates two or three chapters on WHY chicks should sleep with chicks. Well if your buying this book then I would think that your already curious or interested, correct? Then the author shares some really great "secrets" on the where and how to pick up other chicks, let me take the time to write some of them down here for you, first this no brainer, "Get them intoxicated, and my all time favorite,"take them behind a dumpster and get them to smoke weed". The author then fills the book up with helpfull hints like, "go put an ad on the internet"Dang, I would have never thought of that!! In summary, you can buy this book if you want, but don't expect anything other than common sense stuff, and I use the term VERY lightly!! Thank you for your time.
