4-0 out of 5 stars goodearly book on gay parents
I read this book while doing an internship at the National Center for Lesbian Rights in San Francisco. The editor, F. Bozett, was an expert on gay fathers just as Cynthia Patterson is an expert on lesbian mothers. The book covers many relevant subjects such as gay foster parents, gay parents in heterosexual marriages, etc. ...This book is designed more for researchers and college students.Still, I think Mr. Gay John Doe and Ms. Lesbian Jane Doe would find it accessible and interesting. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Thoughtful Study
"Out of the Twilight" is a thoughtful study of the feelings of fathers when their sons reveal they are gay. The fathers in the sample were from different racial, ethnic, educational, and financial backgrounds. This gave a varied view. I was impressed by the author'sability to describe the feelings of each father objectively. The reader begins to understand how these parents deal with their feelings and accept the reality of a gay son. This book gave me insight into how one copes with life and events beyond ones control and somehow survives and goes forward.

5-0 out of 5 stars A UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE ON COMING-OUT
This exceptional book should be read by therapists and researchers, who would find it useful for clinically oriented purposes. Although a study, itreads like a novel. This author's passion for the subject matter isobvious. The vignettes are truly touching, capturing something quiteunique about each father.A rare find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank You, Andrew --- from "Ronald"
Having now had the benefit of reading your new book, I can fully appreciate the significance of your interview with me.Any father -- be their son gay or not -- can derive deep and meaningful father/son insightfrom its' content. It is excellent.Thank you for your efforts andcongratulations on a superb piece of work. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Boring
And since the author didn't use proper grammer, very hard to follow. Couldn't finish it.

4-0 out of 5 stars New, addictive and toxic!
This book would be apalling for many people. The content gets into some risque material, ie man/boy love. However, I had a book group with this book and everyone loved the book.We all thought that he magically pulls off the scenes between the 12 or so year old boy and the adult he interacts with.My friend and I actually agreed that the description even sounded pretty and nice. It's just something you'll have to read to get.
5-0 out of 5 stars Clever, disturbing, dark...
The Abomination is one of the darkest, most disturbing novels I have read in a while. The plot, language and dialogue are disarming from beginning to end. This novel is about a half English, half Spaniard homosexual male who finds himself in an existential crisis when it comes to his relationships with men.He looks back into the days in an English boarding school after his arrival from Spain. That is where his relationships with men begin and how his confusion in a world where heterosexuality is the only thing acceptable in today's society and what has to be done in order to be accepted as a gay man in the modern world. There are various twists throughout the novel.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tiresome and Judgmental
I bought this book with high hopes and felt guilty for not liking it.Brill establishes a narrow range of acceptable choices for gay-headed households, and passes judgment on everything from what kids should call parents to whether or not to affiliate with a mainstream church or synagogue. It is also repetitive and emphasizes the obvious: that parents have to be out and secure in their identity in order to raise happy & healthy kids.Every time I haven't read it in a while, I'll pick it up again, only to remember how much I hate it and cast it aside in annoyance.
1-0 out of 5 stars For Beginner's Only
The advice offered here is the most pedestrian of any "primer" I've ever read.I didn't need to read this book to know that "communication is important in any family" and other "words of wisdom" offered in this tome. Most of the "advice" culled within these pages is plain and simple, common sense. The author repeats herself on virtually every page. There wasn't anything here that I couldn't have figured out for myself and much of it was so simplistic that it was borderline insulting.Don't waste your time or money.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book for pre-birth on....

4-0 out of 5 stars We Told You So !!!
I should first say that, of the extensive reading I've done on the subject of homosexuality I think this study is - by far - one of the most important. Why? Because it rings so true to my own experience. An important cravet is called for, however. What this study doesn't seem to say, and what junk psychology practioners from NARTH jump on, is that most homosexual boys who exhibit gender non-conformist behavior in childhood have basically shed the more visible signs of it by adulthood. Peer pressure - trying to fit in - and not adult professional intervention, gives the greatest motivation to modify the behavior. Also, the simple process of growing up is enough for most boys to leave behind the things of childhood and embrace adult interests. Whatever the outcome, the simple presence of gender non-conformist behavior is no barrier to happiness and success as an adult.Parents who agonize over little Joe saying he wants to marry Arnold Schwarzenegger would be rewarded with a happier son by helping him find his own center - then helping him find his own Arnold, settle down and make himself a solid foundation of home, family and career. The alternative is to treat him like a leper, never honor or encourage commitment, vote for laws that bar him from accepting the responsibilities of marriage, and thereby insure that gay-hating people can continue to say that gay relationships are doomed to failure.
1-0 out of 5 stars A book filled with homophobia and transphobia
Dr. Richard Green has devoted most of his career to the study of homosexuality and transsexuality. His theories often linked with those of Dr. John Money's are promoting an agenda of sex role sterotypes and heterosexism. His theories promote homophobia and transphobia. His theories have harmed children sent to facilities to 'cure' them of their gender identity disorders. He deemed one child cure of gender problems when the boy beat his mother and sister with a stick. It is very sad that Dr. Green is head of the Charing Cross facility in London which is involved in SRS.He has done much to promote the harm of transgendered people.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book validates sissy boys everywhere!
This book is one of the very few available that validates boys who go through a sissy stage during their childhood in an intellegent fashion. Through research and analytical thinking and writing, Green finally validates that in his research he found that "it is not playing with girl toys and idenfifying with female play that makes a boy gay, it is a strong indicator that he already is gay however". Green found that 75% of the males subjects he interviewed who played with girl toys as young boys grew up gay. He is clear that it does not make them gay. Of course we know it wouldn't. Being a tomboy doesn't make girls lesbian and we accept that stage of development for girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet romantic love story
I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet old-fashioned love story. Both characters were likeable and the book was very well written.A believeable plot line and passionate love scenes made this book one I couldn't put down once I started it.If you like happy endings, then you'll love Gold Fever!

5-0 out of 5 stars More than a romance...it's a story about finding your life
This is a very passionate novel, not only romantically but emotionally.
5-0 out of 5 stars Long, Lost Love... Second Chances
After enjoying many of Lyn Denison's books, I finally got a copy of `Gold Fever' and read it in one night. This book is not pure formula; it is a genuine romance and a great story of two women who fall completely in love... the only problem is they fell in love over ten years before the book starts.

I haven't read this book in a long time, but it was definately interesting. I had read Carla Tomaso's other book, The House of Real Love, and I truly enjoyed that one also. 5-0 out of 5 stars Of Two Minds
I found reading Of Two Minds to be totally different experience from my expectations.I expected it to be a story of growing up as a "gay woman," or possible a gay person (which it is), but found that it brought up many of the things from my personal past as a "straight person" that I had managed to gloss over or hide. These issues were not about my being gay (which doesn't seem to be part of my world) but about being a person trying to deal with all of those hormones, school, family, making a way on my own and love affairs. It helped me to recall my feelings of anguish of love lost and found because it resonated so strongly with my own first loves, losses and searching for meaning in partners that really had not much meaning beyond sexual adventure and satisfaction.I came to realize that much of that early experimentation was not so much to find a suitable life partner, but rather to find myself.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite multilayered love story
The book is beautifully written with multifaceted themes of love; familial love, romantic love and ultimately self love and acceptance. The story is timeless and romantic, the characters achingly real.We can see ourselves in Emily's yearning to be whole.I hope Sylvia keeps writing, I want more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Look At Gay Families
This was a good, somewhat disjointed look at lesbian and gay families in the United States today. This is perhaps the only book dealing with the history of the movement, but much of it seemed impersonal. I am not sure if Benkov's target audience is lesbian and gay parents and their supporters, or if the book is supposed to be a way to convince those opposed to the movement. All in all though, it was an enjoyable and informative book, and it is a must read for anyone interested in this subject ... Read more

This is a book about a woman who was raised by a lesbian mother. The journey of the author from childhood through adulthood, from pain, anger, neglect, abuse, forgiveness and love is incredible. The honesty and openess of the author is refreshing and it gives the perspective of a child with a homosexual parent. 2-0 out of 5 stars Unique plot and unique device
Excerpt from a review at GayScribe.com: The unique subject matter -- a gay man having a baby with a lesbian couple -- is only one of things that makes the book unique. Curzon wrote the book as a series of letters, emails andfaxes between the main characters rather than in the more traditionalnarrative style. While this style seems in some places to be a device thatis rather cumbersome to maintain -- like when characters must write journalentries to help us understand emotions they are not revealing to others --in other places, it seems to work fairly well. Unique in every way. ... Read more
