Interesting `How To' and `What With' Manual (3.5*s)
One could wonder if there is a need for this book? The author makes no attempt to supply any data concerning how widespread the desire or practice is for straight girls wanting to engage with other females. Her data collection seems to be rather limited - hardly scientific. In any event, the book is interesting and informative.
overhyped and basically useless
Ok lets get down to why you should save your money and NOT get this book. First of all the author dedicates two or three chapters on WHY chicks should sleep with chicks. Well if your buying this book then I would think that your already curious or interested, correct? Then the author shares some really great "secrets" on the where and how to pick up other chicks, let me take the time to write some of them down here for you, first this no brainer, "Get them intoxicated, and my all time favorite,"take them behind a dumpster and get them to smoke weed". The author then fills the book up with helpfull hints like, "go put an ad on the internet"Dang, I would have never thought of that!! In summary, you can buy this book if you want, but don't expect anything other than common sense stuff, and I use the term VERY lightly!! Thank you for your time.

Useful ways to look at sex and sexual relationships
I am familiar with my anatomy and have a pretty good imagination; what I found useful in this book had little to do with technical sex.Newman provides some chapters early in the book with thought-provoking questions about relationships and flavors of sexuality.One chapter talks about sitting down and thinking beforehand about what you would like in a relationship other than really hot sex.You know, the things parents should be teaching their kids rather than just saying, "Oh, you'll know Mr./Mrs. Right when you meet him/her."One list contains a number of, shall we say, "non-vanilla" sexual activities and asks you to think about what you would and would not want to do at this point.That was a bit of an eye-opener, but was intriguing as well.
Wow.. this is fantastic
I think "The whole lesbian sex book" is just to attract the others. It's definitely a passionate guide for all of us, for everybody.

Truly ONLY For Beginners
I was extremely disappointed when I purchased this title.While the book is indeed full of wonderful full-color photographs, the actual information in the book is useful only those who really need an introduction to gay life.Otherwise, the sex portion of this book, especially, has absolutely nothing in it that two teen boys with a tiny spark of imagination couldn't come up with.I would not recommend this book to anyone who has ever had sexbefore, since you've probably done everything that Ford discusses.

Informative, light and recommended!
This is one of the 2 books which are very good compared to the rest. I like Ford's light, informative and slightly humoristic style of writing. The photos in the book are good quality although an experienced gay may not become very excited. The author himself does not find it necessary to provide great details. However, there is a broad spectrum of information which can be very useful for beginners and gays with limited experience. Overall it is worth being recommended. Additional book which I found very valuable is "Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex". I am sure that you will like both of them.

so funny
I bought this book for a guy I was dating whom had never in his life done "the deed". I got the book after I dumped him(not for that reason)lol. So me and my friends read it. It is really funny and a fun fast read.I highly recommend it.And it could give your boyfriend or girlfriend some pointers.

Doesn't get to point...
I really didn't like this book,the author spends all of her time either talking about herself of her girlfriends,she seems to fill up the book with other stories then to talk about technique in depth,and the only chapter in book that talks about technique has nothing in it!...her descripton of the clitoris is mixed up,and her writing style is confusing...the drawing of the vagina is not clear at all it's not well drawn it looks weird...
Have her singing arias to the rafters!

My #1 recommendation for a gay male leather audience
This was a rich delight to read.Many leatherfolk and leather-curious will appreciate the content, accurately described by the chapter titles:"Getting Started in Leathersex", "Playing with Power and Sex", "Playing with Pain", "Playing with Pleasure", "Playing with Life and Death", "Leather Relationships", "Anatomy, Physiology, and First Aid" and "Leathersex and Spirituality". Words for thought in the novice or experienced mind.
It can be difficult to balance between talking down to those who will feel they have a lot of experience in BDSM and tallking over those who are just learning about BDSM.This book does a good job of looking at a wide range of activities and interests, some of them for the first time, so that newbies can feel grounded while advanced kinky folk can mull over the concepts.Even though the book grew out of Bean's own journey toward becoming a master, I think the book can speak to anyone regardless of vanilla sexual orientation.However the book often reads more like it is geared toward the bottom or submissive partner in a relationship.

an excellent enyclopedia for leathermen of all levels
Joseph Bean does an outstanding job of explaining, demystifying and clarifying many aspects of BDSM. It is from a gay male perspective and would probably not be of tremendous interest to hets or lesbians, but gay& bi/pansexual bio- & transmen should thoroughly enjoy Bean's work,no matter what their level of involvement in BDSM. Could NOT put this thing down!
I was up until the wee hours of the morning for three nights in a row--this book is a page-turner. I'm not gay (that's what they all say, but four beers later...), so the dating info wasn't really helpful to me, except in a fascinating, peek-through-the-keyhole kind of way. The narratives were riveting: two on Chanukah cruises in the Caribbean, threesomes gone bad, raw and real stories about coming out and breaking up, and hilarious, read aloud anecdotes about dating, bar-hopping, and "going in for the kill." I was sad to read about the parents crying over their beautiful gay girls and glad to see them come around. I've already recommended this book to half a dozen people--you don't have to be gay to fall in love with it.

Very Informative!
I really enjoyed this book, and it helped me realize that the feelings that I've been having toward women for the majority of my life are common and lots of other females have been in the same boat as me.The only semi-negative message I got from the book was "pretty popular girls can be lesbians, too".

It's just a collection of people's stories...
Not only is this book, that is authored by TWO people, unaffecting, it's not even really written by them. They've got an intro in every chapter, and that's basically it. It's a collection of people's stories. That is something that should appear in GoNYC magazine, not in a book. This is the first of it's kind, and I expected it to move me. It's not informative and it's not different. It's full of cliche's and there's even a rip of a dashboard song. "Turning to you is like falling in love when you're 10." If you're going to have most of your book written for you by real people, at least have what you write be REAL and YOURS. Even Greg Behrendt's "It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken" is more effective than this. This is the book that stereotypes are made of. ... Read more

Excellent "Leather Anthology"
This book sat on my bookshelf for quite a while before I finally sat down and read it cover to cover. I was amazed and impressed by what I read. This anthology features essays by some of the most well-known authors in the leather community including Dorothy Allison, Geoff Mains, Mark Thompson, Guy Baldwin, Pat (now Patrick) Califia, Gayle Rubin, and Joseph Bean. The essays offer a "glimpse" into what "is" the leather community. Topics covered include leather history (from the 1940's through the 1990's, including an excellent essay on the Catacombs, a now legendary San Francisco male fisting and SM playspace), scene politics, spirituality, and numerous other topics about consensual power play. Not your average how-to manual...
The Leatherfolk Anthology is full of valuable information and first person accounts from within the BDSM community.This book goes beyond the scope of a how-to-manual with more theoretically based essays designed to inform people not directly involved with BDSM and challenge people in the leather community itself.This book is probably not for anyone who doesn't know what "vanilla sex" means or is other wise sexually non-deviant.

Student Opinion, Must Read Book for All!!
The stories in this book communicate the history and a chronology of the SM and Leather community through various individual's experiences, thoughts and impressions.After reading Thompson's compilation I felt I had a deeper understanding and curiosity for the intricacies of the leather/SM community.The voices are from all over the spectrum and give insights into various multi-layered identities.The editor's determination to portray the chronology and the ancient origins of SM give important foundations for the contemporary commentaries by members of the community.I am a student in a Gay and Lesbian Ethnography class and this was my favorite book over the entire semester and I learned so much through the varied perspectives and historical foundations.It inspired discussions and reflections on sex and how it tends to function socially and personally outside of the SM community and how there is a lot to be learned from that community regarding communication and respect.I must also mention that the piece by Dorothy Allison was one of the most passionate, poetic and evocative excerpts I have read from a lesbian perspective! ... Wasn't what I exspected...but very happy with it!
I think it was a good book. Easy to read, and helpful. I found that it was more of a woman's guide. I have read other "sex" books and they didn't touch to much on feeling, health...They mostly just talked about techniques. (...)

ALL I REALLY NEED
So, yes, all I really needed to know about lesbian sex I have learned from this phenomenal book. In easy-to-read abecedarian (abc-order) format, it's comprehensible, clear, concise without omitting great details, and can be picked up and accessed by topic any time. The revisions are contemporary and and cool, helping the original writing to extend to queer girls of the younger generation. This is a reference book that I will keep on my shelf and will recommend to everyone I know, even to men who seem to be relatively clueless about sex between women. Keep this one in mind for the holidays, kids. :)

Dear me, I think I might be gushing...
I'm a bit of a sex nerd; consequently I read a lot of instruction manuals.Of the ones I've seen, Fairy Butch's The Ultimate Guide To Strap-On Sex was the most useful and eye-opening, not just on the subject of strap-ons, but of sex toys in general, genderplay, lube (includes a section rating 30 or so lubes for texture and taste!), and communication.
good guide but could use more drawings
In 13 chapters Karlyn Lotney, otherwise known as Fairy Butch, gives us a good guide on how to use strapons. The focus is on women so there isn't so much really enough about men to call it "the ultimate". While there are some images there need to be more to help those trying to figure how to use them and especially on the positions you can use because a strapon is never in the same position as biological penis. A good book to help someone start out and feel more comfortable. It even includes very rare topics such as clit pumping. "101 Sex Toys" is a better guide to dildos and the equipment but this is a good solid place to start exploring strapons.

It's good but not...quite...great
Karlyn Lotney, aka Fairy Butch, has deployed hir extensive experience as a columnist to write this book. I decided to buy the book after spending a weekend reading Fairy Butch archives on http://planetout.com. Sadly, the book didn't go far beyond what I had already read, much of it is reproduced verbatim from hir column. Whatever!
I don't know about anyone else but I do not know to many gay men that are into animal sex, yes I said animal sex - who in the hell thought it would be okay to put that in a book??An ordinary straight person would pick this book up and see that and deffintly say we are all sex addicts!I do have to give the book a lot credit it covers a lot of ground but some in very little detail and some in great detail.I just think they could of done better!

More of a gay book than gay sex book
First of all, this book is not for lesbians (In case you can't tell by the cover). This book does a good job at previewing a diverse collection of topics related, some only mildly related, to gay sex. It covers just about every aspect of gay sex you could think of however, it does not cover them in much depth. If your looking for a book that is going to tell you how to blow your boyfriends mind with a innovative trick under the sheets, this is not the book for you. If does cover a lot of sexual tips and techniques, but just about all of that information you probably already know, or can find online for free. Every now and then there is some new or obscure information that is quite interesting and the section at the back of the book listing gay related websites and book references is handy.
A Must read!!! LOTS of info!
I absolutely loved this book! It was chalk-full of clearly presented, mostly objective information. There wasnt preachy like some books can be... It was very objective, gave u the option of assigning ur own opinion... The only preachiness was of things that could be hazardous to your physical/mental health. The authors have a very optimistic attitude toward sex, which is extremely refreshing, and they basically say that if you follow safe sex guidelines and avoid people, places, and situations that might cause unsafe sex, u can lead a satisfying and healthy sex life.Read more

Why don't you own this?
We have three editions of this essential s/m book. I'm especially fond of the 1972 edition, since Larry signed it "To Laura, my editor" back in 1994. It's a great combination of guidebook and hot leathersex, and while the current editions left out the slang of the day (I'm especially fond of the "groovy sex" in the first edition), the essential bits that give a good look into the 70's leather community makes this a classic.

Nice intro, but not a comprehensive guide
I should preface my comments by stating that I am not a Leatherman.I enjoy the leather "costume," but felt a need to learn about what it really symbolizes.It was out of respect for the leather community that I picked up the book, in hopes of educating myself on its practices.
When There Was Only One
Back in the seventies, it was still a very risky proposition to attempt a gay publication of any sort. But in the California Seventies, books like "Song Of The Loon" (from the sixties) and eventually the likes of "Tales of The City" began breaking down the barriers, allowing homosexual men to be presented not as crazy or unstable, but as regular people in love. Larry Townsend went even farther out on a limb. He sat down in 1972 and spelled out, for the first time in book form, the codes of conduct that the underground Leather Scene and S&M men lived by. There were also several accounts of steamy real life kink encounters.

Wonderful Lessons.
As a person recently out of the closet, I found this book extremely helpful and frank.It is full with wonderful and explicit illustrations.It answered all my questions and doubts.I feel much more prepared for the lifestyle I've chosen.

Its a dictionary
This book i guess is a manual... but i would discribe it more as a dictionary. It summariz'z a word like testicals in one sentance and then talks about it in a few paragraphs. In my opinion Ultimate Gay Sex is a lot better than this book. Plus UGS has actuall photography to help get a better ideas, this book has some hand drawn pictures. Hope this helps.

Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power.
Yes this book makes us confront our own rationilaztions and justifactions for not engaging in safe sex, or engaging in promiscious sex with strangers. The facts are facts, regardless of what you want to believe, and Dr. Goldstone lays all the cards on the table and lets y ou make the decisions from there. He is a gay doctor, so these same issues which he talks about are physical conditions that he himself has to avoid inh is own personal life. I bought this book for my own edification and plan on donating it to my Universitiy's GLBT student services library so others can have insight into the heatlth risks associated with gay sex. The book made me take my own sexual practices into perspective, both past and future, and allowed me to make more intellgient decisions on how to proceed. He make sit very clear that HIV/AIDS is not the only STD out there that can have a very damaging effect, and he also discusses many other health issues and illnesses that can affect men. He also discusses sex, and how to use lubricants and condoms and how to position yourself for penetration, so this is a great device for the inexperienced young men trying their sexuality out for the first time. Dr. Goldstone is 100% pro gay, he is gay himself, but that does not mean we can deny the truth of our biological bodies and the physical conditions that can come upon them. Read this book with a grain of salt, and use it to better protect yourself, thats what it's intention is for. He also adds vignettes to the chapters previous to you reading them to give you a perspective of where he is coming from, and also has a great sense of humor, although it is a bit corny. I wish more MDs would realize we need some humor in order to rest our minds during a physical examination. He also makes it very clear that you should be completely upfront with your physician about being gay and the sexual acts you perform, otherwise most straight physicians in particular could easily over look your symptoms as being something else entirely.

Excelent lessons!!
As a recently out of the closet person I was full of questions and doubts about gay sex.This book truly gave me all the answers I needed.This society is so concerned with AIDS that we forget about other sexually transmitted deseases.This book not only provides illustrations of all posible deseases out there but it also provides valuable information as to how to spot these ailments, their symptons and posible cures and treatments.I truly feel more prepare.

Exactly as Advertised
This book is exactly what the title says, a collection of short stories about first time lesbian experiences. The stories are written by women, usually in the first person, and are filled with flowery imagery. This title takes a deep look, mostly through repetition, at the sensual and emotional sides of lesbianism.
Depends on what you want it for...
I found this collection to be standard. Like most erotica, this compilation has a few shining stars as well as a few stinkers, with most everything else falling in the middle. Great stuff in here.
