5-0 out of 5 stars The best of its Kind!
I am a bisexual husband. i have been married four times, and each time i have tried to explain my proclivities to my wives, but they just don't get it. Maybe if they read this book they'd understand. i highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars When Husbands Come Out of the Closet
An absolute 'must read' for anyone in the field of social work or public health or questioning minds interested in justice and peace of mind about their or their partner's sexuality.Everyone, especially those who need to begin their search for equality and reality would benefit from this book.Social Workers need to get a handle on this book in order to provide the best possible information on this little talked about subject. This is definitely in line with the NASW's Code of Ethics. This book gives society an idea of how to address this complex psychosocial issue with compassion and justice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful support for wives
This book has been wonderful. It opened up communciations between myself and my husband. He told me and we read this together.I don't know if we'll end up divorced or still married. But this book gives me a degree of hope. And it can help you stay the best of friends in a most difficult time.It really does state my feelings.I am not the only one and this is a real issue. It's unfortunate that wives like us are left with so little help and understanding. Our husbands have support systems, but we need them too.I hope this book helps others. It has helped me see how I feel and that I'm not alone.I just currently don't know the outcome yet... ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The Biggest Piece of Junk ever written!!
Islamic Sexualities by Stephen O. Murray is probably the worst piece of Literature ever written. It is all fiction, it does not contain even one bit of truth. It was just written by a bunch of homosexuals who are attempting to justify homosexuality by "claiming" that the Middle East tolerates homosexuaity which is a bunch of trash considering the fact that homosexuality by Islamic Law and Middle Eastern Secular Law is punishable by DEATH! This book is a waste of money not to mention a waste of trees, and has no benefit. It is just a waste of time, even a "fairy tale" or for that mmatter a "tall tale" has more truth than this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Is this a joke???
To say that Islam tolerates Homosexuality is a very humorous claim indeed. This author focuses on practices done by corrupt muslims who do not even read their own book. The Quran numerously talks about Homosexuality, Condeming it over and over. First it warns the men not to leave their wives and go for other men. Another verse states How God dealt a destructive Force (severe storms) on the People of "Lot" that instantly killed all their inhabitants as punishment for such a sinful act. Then there are the VAST testimonies of Homosexual muslim who choose not to engage in Homosexual acts and lead a Heterosexual life in order not to Sin in the name of God. I could go on, this is so pathetic that it's not even worth my time reviewing this. MY ADVICE, BEFORE YOU BELIEVE IN SOMETHING SOMEONE SAYS OR WRITES ABOUT, do your own independant research to see if the author is honest or just a fanatic. In this cas go read what the Quran really says about homosexuals.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece, You Will Love This Book
From the cover to the last page, *Islamic Homosexualities* is packed with information that is really useful to the queer Muslim of today. From "Slave Elites" of the Ottoman Empire to the "Gender-Defined" roles of African Homos, from the "Male Actresses" to the "Pakistani Male Prostitues," the book is truly packed with shocking yet factual information. 1-0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money!
I have never written a review before, but I felt like I just had to say something about this book.It was just plain awful. The writing was amatuerish and if this was actually based on a true story, the people involved were both selfish and trifling.I found the wife to be highly hypocritical of finding out about her husband's sexual tendencies considering the things that she was into.
4-0 out of 5 stars Do not read by yourself
This book was good.It started out slow, but when it got going, I couldn't put it down. You must read this book.I am quite glad that I was single reading this book or somebody's son, would have been in a world of trouble.

4-0 out of 5 stars No More Secrets
Author Janice Scott-Blanton tackles the controversial issue of sexuality in her latest novel, My Husband Is On the Down Low...And I Know About It.The main characters, Annette and James, grew up together and shared a special and unique bond.Eventually they have a daughter and get married. At first glance they appear to be a normal couple, but they each have secret sexual needs and desires.Annette tells James of her yearning to be with another woman and they act upon it, becoming regulars in the swinger scene. While Annette accepts and even enjoys her bisexuality, James is conflicted with his sexuality and harbors several secrets, that once divulged threaten his marriage, his career, and everything he holds dear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Inspiring Reading!
This book is excellent and very inspiring. I highly recommend it to anyone, but especially to other gays and lesbians who are carrying a heavy burden of guilt from their childhood on. Reading it and completing the exercises led me on a splendid and magical, healing journey to wholeness. For the first time in my life of over 30 years, I actually feel good about myself and my life and my sexual orientation. The message of this wonderful book is: Society is the problem -- NOT your sexual orientation! I agree 100%. This book's message is easily applicable to all other minorities with an alternative lifestyle, as well. Please read this book, for yourself and for your loved ones. Self-esteem is the greatest gift which you can give to yourself as well as to your partner and the other people in your life. READ IT today! And a warm hug and THANK YOU to Dr. Hardin for sharing this tremendous message! ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars The Gay and Lesbian Self-Esteem Book
Dr. Hardin's book is a powerful book that presents information vital to healing the wounds inflicted on gays and lesbians, both by society and by individuals, in a manner that is friendly, accessible and eminently usablewithout compromising on the complexity of the topic. The respect withwhich the subjects of his book and the readers are treated is healing inand of itself. This book is a must read for all gays and lesbians, theirfamily, friends and coworkers and anyone interested in preventing thedamage inflicted on individuals simply because of their sexual orientation. It speaks indirectly as well to members of other groups who likewisesuffer discrimination because of group membership. As a woman, in a maledominated society, I found much of relevance to my own situation in hisbook. This book is an easy, accessible read whose implications andpotential to better the lives of its readers areprofound and anything butsimplistic.I highly recommend it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Is it for me?
I am honestly questioning my sexuality every day and I wanted to read a book or something that would give me an assurance as to what I am - Straight, Bi, or Lesbian?
5-0 out of 5 stars Historical book still relevant today!
This ground breaking book gave voice to a generation of previously unseen bisexuals.Rather than arguing statistics or debating the sexuality of long dead celebrities, Hutchins and Ka'ahumanu gave a space to normal bisexuals who told their lives.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love sees no gender!
For any of you who do not already self-identify as pansexual or bi, this ground-breaking, multicultural, pro-feminist, bisexual reader will make you re-examine your monosexuality. Through the use of personal narratives, the writers explore such issues as: the process of coming out, the bi community, self-affirmation,the politics of bisexual liberation and biphobia amongst heterosexuals, lesbians and gay men. For too long, biphobia and transphobia have fragmented the queer community. Just as white supremacy is used by the ruling-class to divide workers, transphobia and biphobia prevent us from being a truly powerful force against the patriarchy. In short, this wonderful book is a welcolme addition to Third Wave feminist discourse on sexual fluidity and radical queer activism. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Straightforward and fascinating
Of the books I've read on same-sex marriage this is the most straight-forward and readable. Written by the editorial page editor of the Rutland Herald (where he won a Pulitzer prize for his coverage of this issue) the book reads like a novel, filled with interesting characters and dramatic moments.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Remarkable Journey
Just a short while ago, Vermont wrestled with an issue that's gripping our country in a maelstrom. The end result, as most of us know, was the formation of the controversial but important recognition of same-sex relationships called "civil unions". What most of us don't know is the inner workings of the Vermont government as it came to deal with this issue, and the ultimate political sacrifice that many people played in order to ensure equal rights for all of its citizens. David Moats, editor of the Rutland Herald, describes in detail, how that all transpired in his book "Civil Wars: A Battle for Gay Marriage".5-0 out of 5 stars A superbly balanced account
Civil Wars is an exceedingly balanced book about the events creating the first civil union legislation for gays in the state of Vermont. Given, such a divisive subject, author David Moats does not interject his own views per se, except where his own experience adds color to the proceedings. Instead, he richly describes the history of the lawsuit that lead to the state Supreme Court decision, which placed the burden upon the legislature to remedy "the exclusion of same-sex couples from the secular benefits and protections offered married couples."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great and powerful demolition of the puritanical elements of the gay movement
Warner presents a highly valuable and enjoyable polemic against the increasingly LGBTQ movement or what would be better termed the growing "embourgeoisment" of the queer liberation movement represented best by such petty reactionaries as Andrew Sullivan, Michelangelo Signorile, and Larry Kramer. It certainly makes you think more about how sexually liberated we in our 'enlightened' age truly are.

5-0 out of 5 stars A different perspective
In this excellent book, Michael Warner explains how gay and lesbian activists are pursuing the wrong goal by advocating and working for the right to be legally married.5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating breakdown of the politics of marriage
As a straight woman and a strong advocate for gay marriage, this book did not at first appeal to me.What could I learn from a book by a gay man arguing against gay marriage? It turns out that I had a lot to learn.Although I still believe that anyone who wants to marry should have that right, after reading this book I no longer want to get married. This breaks down the descriminatory nature of marriage and the politics of sexual shame in such an interesting way. This should be required reading for everyone--gay, straight, single, married, whatever. It's not an argument that you hear very often, but it's a very important one!Read this book--it might upset you, but it will force you to examine ideas like homosexuality, marriage, and sex in new ways. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Utter Drivel
Like Satinover, I too am a graduate of Harvard and board certified MD. I found this little gem to be nothing more than Judeo-Christian misinformation. Par for the course. Look at the stratified and out-of-balance world that has developed from these very attitudes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Compassionate and Enlightening
I re-read this book recently after first coming across it a few years ago.Reading this marvelous study of homosexuality, one cannot help sense the compassion that Dr. Santinover feels for those who bear the burden of homosexuality. His attitude is compassionate and unpretentious. He begins the book by discussing his experience of treating a fatally-ill young man dying of GRID, or gay-related immune disorder, now known as AIDS in New York in 1981, and the death of another gay man who was a psychiatric patient of his from the same disease.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Satinover's book is extremely objective
Homosexuality is a subject which I have read a great deal about, having some friends who are homosexual and others who are bisexual.I have had difficulty buying into the idea that, that is a "gay gene" and that is all there is to it.The person is born to be gay; they have had gay fantasies all of their lives; and they are simply behaving in accordance with the way that God made them.Given that some people have become successfully reoriented refutes this claim; and studies even done by homosexual groups refute this claim. For instance, a study of identical twins where one twin is homosexual; 50% of the other twins are homosexual. This is a much higher percentage than is found in families with a homosexual member; and a higher percentage than found in fraternal twins. Therefore, there must be a genetic component--that is undeniable. However, since only 50% of their twin siblings are homosexual, that means that genetics (and family environment) is not a determining factor.

1-0 out of 5 stars SHOCKING
I was amazed after what I read that the author is the director of the Homosexuality and Gender department for FOCUS NO THE FAMILY on their PUBLIC POLICY division and also serves as chairman of the board of Exodus International. Ugh! Fellow Reformed Christians this is what Mike said in his book on page 21:
1-0 out of 5 stars If you want to ignore all the sociological data...
While no one has yet proven where homosexuality comes from (just as no one has proven where heterosexuality comes from) the normal approach for a reference book such as this would be to study the facts and data and THEN form an opinion as did the American Psychological Association when they declassified homosexuality as a disorder back in the 1970's.This is one of those books that is based around a particular conservative religious view and then plays with all the facts in order to prove the authors thesis.
5-0 out of 5 stars Objective, informative, and enlightening.
I am deeply concerned about this issue, but though I feel strongly about my beliefs, I myself have never struggled with these tendencies; and though I will always condemn the action, I cannot fairly judge those who struggle.I accept the Bible, but I have only recently begun studying it, and I haven't gotten to the "gay" part yet; my belief about homosexual behavior stems from natural law, and is supported and reaffirmed by my Catholic faith.

"Tantra" in the west is often interpreted to mean an ecstatic experience with spiritual dimensions. This concise and well written book provides a larger cultural perspective that has been targeted to the needs of gay men.As a westerner, the "guru-master" element of the spirituality of the subcontinent must always remain foreign to me as a spiritual democrat. This book has been largely shaped by the views of one such 19th century guru.

As we head into the new millennium the gay community is plagued with problems of alcoholism and drug abuse, it seems that as we have jettisoned the religions that oppressed us we replaced them with consumerism and nihilism. It is a sad reflection that so many of us are seeking something deeper but cannot easily find it. The monotheistic religions of the West have, at times, tried to accommodate gay and lesbian practitioners by becoming more "liberal", yet these attempts are, in my mind, patchy at best. Fundamentalism is still going strong. There are many Gay Christian organizations working hard to help those so inclined, yet so often, Biblical exegesis seems aimed at making excuses for the intolerance of the Bible and there is still a great ambiguity when it comes to pleasure and the human body. At times it seems that the western religions view of acceptance is homosexuals becoming like heterosexuals.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent considering the little information available
once upon a time, two countries, england and france, became soooo powerful that they decided to create empires stretching from one end of the globe to the other, and who better to do some of the grunt work than gay men, who were unable to live their lives freely in mother countries which shunned and repressed them, who were much more interested than their heterosexual counterparts in learning about new languages, religions and cultures and who had a whole new world of sexual opportunity opened up to them by mingling with peoples who didn't suffer from the sexual constraints that moralistic european society had been confining them with since christianity took hold?...5-0 out of 5 stars Argh!Someone stole my idea for a dissertation!
It's about time someone wrote this book.In this historical text, an Australian scholar details how colonial travels affected what we would now call gay men and how gay men affected colonialism. In the first half of the book, Robert Aldrich how this phenomenon occurred for painters, poets, businessmen, and political activists, and men in other professions. In the latter half of the book, he discusses this phenomenon region by region (Papua New Guinea, North Africa, South Asia, etc).Included in this book is a whole chapter dedicated to the ultimate gay European colonizer, E. M. Forster.
