5-0 out of 5 stars If you want to understand Lesbianism - Read this book!!
Lesbian Epiphanies deserves MORE than 5 stars!! The best book out there on understanding WHY some women come out late in life. I being one of them came out in my later years and wondered WHY I missed not coming out earlier. This book from the 25 life studies explains why. It seems we all have [almost] the same or similar stories and making the discovery of being a Lesbian and understanding WHY I was born this way, as I know I was having loved women ALL my life, it just takes a little *push* to finally go over the edge of society's regulations and come out - OUT & PROUD.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm so glad to know that I am not alone...
Karol Jensen managed to communicate and clearly explain the life transformation that I experienced around the same age.I was married for over twenty years when I discovered that I experience my most happiestmoments when I was in the company of other women. When I turned 40, I wentthrough a major metomorphisis - realizing that what I truly wanted, myhusband was not capable of giving me, and until I read this book, I hadfeelings of guilt for wanting to be with a woman. But discovering that thesigns were there for many years, even as an adolescent, I have finallyaccepted my self, and I encourage any middle age woman who is strugglingwith this problem to read this book, and pray, and know that God does notmake any mistakes, He wants us to be happy. And if its a woman that willbring that happiness, then don't waste another minute..GO FOR IT! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Doom for married bisexuals
I came out to my husband five years before he read this book. He didn't believe I was bisexual, but the more often I tried to talk to him about the issue, the further he would shut down. Eventually, he read this book and decided that our marriage was doomed, despite that we had been together for close to twelve years at the time. Our marriage would have been possible to salvage if he'd not read this, bought the propaganda that being married to a bisexual was a disaster, and actually attempted to communicate about the issues both of us were having.
5-0 out of 5 stars Life saving reading
No one ever expects to hear the words I heard my husband of 11 years say when he sat me down last January and told me he was gay. We had been together for nearly 16 years and have two young children. I was devistated. I went through (and am still going through) extreme emotional rollercoaster girations that left me dizzy. I felt every emotion nearly everyday. I didn't know which way was up. I didn't know what to do, who to talk to, who to trust. Trust was the first thing I started challenging in my day to day life. Friends, family, coworkers... any one I met I wondered if they too were lying to me. It was a destructive mind set that I eventually, through the help of counseling, got over. Like the book mentions, there is a moment when the strait spouse feels they've been pushed into the closet. Hiding what they know from everyone, pretending things are normal. Having been there, I can attest that that was a very scary time and this book did help me get through that and helped me rescue myself from the closet. 8 months later, I'm in my own house, feeling the freedom to have my own routine, getting on with my life, and we're divorsed but still friends. Most importantly, we're both happier now that we have been for several years. The kids have come first through this whole ordeal and we have managed to keep them on track that there is no shame in who their father is. We still do things as a family, after all, we got divorced from each other not the kids. we even do things as a big happy family with my ex and his partner. The kids seem to have adjusted pretty well so far, but I know the road is long and we've just started the journey.
1-0 out of 5 stars I'm disappointed
As a friend, I know that Jennifer left a LOT out of her book. Like, the fact that their marriage broke up before her husband came out of the closet. She never mentions the Mormon Church, yet they were very active in it; her husband decided to leave the Church, and that was when they separated. While they were separated, they BOTH started dating. Then, her ex admitted that he was dating a man.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Than a Feeling
Many of us can remember our first kiss, our first day of school, even our first memories. But what about the instant you knew you were gay?In a sleek softbound coffee table book titled When I Knew, Robert Trachtenberg has assembled a brilliant collection of anecdotes and short tales surrounding this very topic.
5-0 out of 5 stars WHEN I KNEW
I purchased this book (because) whilst visiting some friends noticed it on their coffee table. Not wanting to be rude and sit and read the whole book whilst there.
4-0 out of 5 stars a bit old
maybe its because i am a early twentie something kind of guy, but i thought that most of the articles and quotes in here were a bit old a lot of the things were over my head, refering to childhood in the 60 and 70's or earlier i think that that is great and needs to be out there but there should be a sequal of more recent events if you are in the age group that grew up during that tiem you will love it. the images were great ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dealing with Teens? Get this!
This book is a must-have for any Library shelf that serves teens. It is written in a style appealing to teens and includes short, one or two page summaries of ways to cope with the many issues teens face when questioning their sexuality. It also provides excellent, current resources for teens, from crisis lines to 'safe' (moderated) chat sites. I especially enjoyed the section dealing with 'coming out' to parents and family. It provided experiences from other teens who have (the good, the bad, and the ugly), and also possible responses parents might have when a teen tells them he/she is gay.In addition, it listed possible, respectful ways to respond to less-than-accepting parents.A fantastic compilation of stories, insights, and resources for teens.

4-0 out of 5 stars wonderful book
i remember being a pre-teen, leafing through many books written for young women that followed an "our bodies ourselves" format. these books were ok, but never what i was really looking for. i didn't want information on how to ask boys to dance or how to apply lipstick- i wondered where the chapters entitled "when you don't feel like the rest or the girls" or "but what if i don't like boys?" were. 5-0 out of 5 stars excellent guide - go at your own pace
This book is excellent.I wish I had found it 10 years earlier - it could have saved me a lot of agony. It explains the various levels and stages of coming out rather than making it seem like one huge thing you have to do all at once.It breaks it down into sections like acknowleding to yourself that you are gay and becoming more comfortable with that as well as coming out to friends, family, co-workers, the world at large, etc.I think most gay people will see themself in this book probably several times over.By the time I read it, I had already worked my way through several of the steps on my own but it was nice to realize that others went through similar stages and that I had made more progress than I had thought. What I loved most about this book is that you can read just the sections that concern you or the whole book but that it helps you to progress at your own pace through the various stages. It reminds you that everyone's time scale is different and that you should only move on to another step when you feel ready to do so.There are practical suggestions and stories of other people's experiences.I would recommend this book to anyone who is gay whether they are just realizing that they are or even if they figure they are already out.I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a classic!
This was one of the first coming out books on the market in the 90's when gay self-help started exploding! Even today this is a great book as a first step and initial read to the coming out process. While not a psychotherapist, Signorile understands the psychological effects of the political arena suppressing us as gays and lesbians and keeping us in the closet.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money! To come out, sit your mom, dad, friend, or whomever down somewhere where the two of you can be alone for a few minutes, then just tell them. Then ask that they not tell anybody else until you have told the people you wish to tell personally. You will find that most people already knew or suspected, don't care, and love you just as much.Even those for whom it's a surprise will most likely not be bothered and love you just as much.If there is anybody it does bother, well, best to know now. This book is third rate psychobabble, don't waste your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Greenbergs Baseball Fantasy?
Richard Greenberg's play is adventurous and thoughtful. The play begins after an outing and continues to take you on an unexpected journey. This play is a great read and I am sure even more exciting in person.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Play about Homosexuality and Baseball
Darren Lemming, the star player for the New York Empires, matter-of-factly announces that he's gay during a post-game interview.Told by his teammate Kippy Sunderstrom, the play follows the days, weeks and months after the announcement and the effect it has on the Empires. The team seems to take it.No arguments; no in-fighting between Darren, the management or any players; life proceeds as normal.Until a racist and homophobic pitcher -- Shane Mungitt -- is brought up from the minor leagues, and his interactions with Darren lead to tragic consequences.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Play!
I participated in the cast of this play last July 2005.One of the best experiences I have ever had doing theater.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for all gay men seeking a better life
My partner and I both read this book a year ago and have gained a greater understand of our "little boy" which has enriched our lived greatly. In addition, we are fortunate to live in Santa Fe and have learned much from our couples, individual, and group psychotherapy work under the guidance of Jim and Gary. This book speaks to all gay men, their family, and their friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars A VALUABLE BOOK FOR EVERY GAY MAN
Perhaps the most valuable aspect of the book is in identifying the often subtle barriers, experiences, and issues that may prevent a gay child from developing a sense of pride, confidence, and well-being as an adult gay man.5-0 out of 5 stars This is a MUST READ for gay men their family & friends!
This book gives great insight into the process of developing into an emotionally mature, well adjusted, confident and happy gay man.It is extremely well written and clear. The authors say what they have to say, make their point and move on to the next topic.I think this book should be read by gay men of any age as well as all the people who love and care about them.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars stepping out in style
I've owned this book for ten years and I know that there are many good reasons to buy and enjoy the "Homo Handbook" - regardless of whether you're prepared to follow the gradual steps suggested or prefer to quickly come out to your folks and flatmates by just leaving it on the coffee table.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent if you fit a certain type
This book is great. It has a lot of great exercises and advice, and is very supportive. I did find that this book has been written for a narrow audience, a white closeted lesbian in her 30's.This is an audience that Ijust don't fit into. This book does try to address other audiences such asgay men, but does not handle it well. For those of you who fit into thisbook's audience, BUY IT! It's a great book. If you don't fit into thisaudience, you can buy it but might find that you can't relate to it aswell.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adds our cammp humor into the "coming out" process
As an endangered species (i.e. 'lesbian with a sense of humor'), I adored this book!Judy has her inner camp by the horns, making this an incredibly humorous read as she leads you through a well-rounded self-exploration ofyour "inner homo."Definitely worth both the money and the timeto read this treasure! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Seminal reading for the bisexual male
BI MEN is an excellent, wide-ranging introduction to the bi male psyche. Despite its somewhat scholastic format (it was published as a double issue of the Journal of Bisexuality, and the publisher retained elements such as chapter keywords and abstracts usually not present in trade books), is a moving collection of coming-out stories by bi men from a wide variety of perspectives, as well as several non-bi male contributions. As in most anthologies, there is some unevenness in quality of writing, but overall the book is quite readable and successful in its attempt to present the actual lived experience of the bi man in all its complexity.

3-0 out of 5 stars Male Version of "Closer to Home"
The chapters in this anthology are well-edited and not repetitive. One can easily appreciate the individuality, self-searching, and insight of these men.I love my monosexuality, but I can accept that these men call themselves bisexual.

This is an anthology of narratives from gay men and lesbians discussing their employment situation. The submission from editrix Rodriguez-Noques was really good. There's even a submission by Barney Frank, a Congressman.Still, this book gets repetitive after awhile. Also, it focuses on white-collar jobs and may reinforce myths that gays are class-privileged and thus underserving of protection from antidiscrimination laws. The book is 50-50 men to women; that is a plus. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A great collection of stories
This book is a collection of stories about mostly straight people who had friends or relatives come out. One thing that happens to straight friends and relatives at someone's coming-out is that the gay person is out and thefamily or friends go into the closet. This book explores how family andfriends deal with gayness and how they come out of their closets, too. There is a briefest of brief introductions that summarizes the stories tofollow, and there is a fairly extensive resource guide in the back full ofaddresses and organizations of every kind for information, support, andadvice. 4-0 out of 5 stars Heavy Metal
I enjoyed this book from the point of view of a white football fan looking in from the outside on the experiences of a black brotha coping with the challenge of being gay. But I was rather turned off by the many expletives on almost every page in the later chapters, as he described his struggles with alcohol, drugs, and the underground gay culture. I live on a Caribbean Island where I hear the same expletives every day, so I can appreciate the reality of "the life" but it was a bit off-putting for the general reader. Still I came away praying for Ray, that he will be able to stay on the wagon and not relapse from his addictions, and also hoping that he will sometime find a partner that he can rely on and relate to.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE best of ALL the gay self-help books I read...
I probably read 50 different books about coming out and reconciling my spiritual life with new gay life. This book was a tremendous help and comfort to me.The author is so sincere and revealing. He really gives you a glimpse into his inner most heart.I have bought about 6 of these books and given them to friends who were struggling with coming out and dealing with the "Christian" upbringing. They do NOT have to conflict.God is a God of love and healing and this book really helped me so much.Thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Help when there is no where else to turn...
I think it's easy to dismiss this title because the subject matter is difficult/distasteful for many people. However, for those of us who grew up in church, for those of us who want to make it through the dark passages of our secret lives, for those of us who see no possible way to manage the incongruencies of marriage and homosexual orientation, Terry Norman offers his story. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Gay Married Man's Perspective - Well Told
In this honest and deeply personal portrayal, Dr. Norman organizes his book around the questions and answers that family members and friends might have in trying to understand men in their lives who come out after being married. Dr. Norman brings to the table his years of experience and training as a minister, theologian, and practicing psychologist. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A rare gem...
This book is an amazing and masterful piece of work.Due to the significant lack of material pertaining to the South Asian Diasporic LBGTQ community one can easily see the relevence and necessity for such a publication.Personal, provacative, critical, analytical, cross-cultural, and ethnically specific are keywords that come to mind in reviewing this title.Highly recommended for any LBGTQ person regardless of ethnicity.A useful resource for any student pursuing academic studies in Queer Studies or South Asian Studies. As relevent today as it was when it was first published!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating portrayal of queer South Asian experiences
There are very few books on and by queer of color. This book is a very significant anthology that has not been equaled for over 8 years.

4-0 out of 5 stars must read
The South Asian lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender movement has come a long way since 1993, but Ratti's book is still a primarysource of information on the subject and hence a milestone for the movement. The chapters arehighly variable in quality but are all eminently readable. Readers arestrongly urged to check out www.trikone.org and the khush listserv to seewhere the desi queer movement is heading these days. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommended reading for anyone who aspire to have a business of their own one day
Gourd Girls by Priscilla Wilson is the story of Janice Lymburner and Priscilla Wilson, two young women whose decision to begin a business soon came to be their most favored pastime. Readers will follow the two girls as they are discovering themselves and their knack for the unexpected, giving Gourd Girls a great and powerful intimacy as the community, their families, and their friends join the girls to create an inspiring unity amidst such an unlikely business as the growing and selling of gourds. A remarkable tale in its vividly written in familiar story telling narrative style, Gourd Girls is very strongly recommended reading for anyone who aspires to have a business of their own one day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Way to go, Gourd Girls
Gourd Girls came in the mail from a friend who told me that because it was self-published it is hard to find in mainstream bookstores. It is a lovely book in every way, and I'm delighted to see it is now available on Amazon. The writing style is straightforward and engaging. There's a nice mix of narrative about becoming entrepreneurs, creative and spiritual growth, and dealing with the uncomfortable-ness of an alternative lifestyle in a rural mountain area. There's also a good bit of hilarity and an infectious appreciation ofwhat "foolishness" can do to lighten our burdens. I think you will like this book as much as I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Gourd Read!
You'll laugh; you'll cry; but mostly you'll LOVE the gourd girls! You'll delight to discover the playful spirit author Priscilla Wilson and her partner, Janice Lymburner, bring to everything they do, even as they struggle with financial, social and political issues.Engrossing, well-written, and straight from the heart, this is a fine memoir. ... Editorial Review

Adam Mastoon's beautifully reproduced photographs of gay, lesbian, and bisexual young people are a revelation: each subject, posed yet casual, looks directly into the camera and invites us into his or her life. But the book is more than a photo gallery, and the personal statements written by each young person brings a sense of what it means to be a gay youth today. In a world in which gay teens are told that they either don't exist or should change their sexual orientation, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Powerful Account I've Ever Read
This was the first book I found when I started accepting my sexuality, and I have to say I was so moved by what I read here that I found the courage to come out myself. What makes this book so much more different from other accounts of GLBTQ youth is that this book also comes with a photo of each teen, so we have faces to match the stories with. And it's not all "boo-hoo, we're unaccepted gays", though we do have a few stories like that. But we also have tons of stories that cover all possible societal reactions, and each story provides a ray of hope for any GLBTQ person.A classic that must be on the shelf of every GLBTQ person's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shared Heart, Shared Story
I found this book in the local libary and I automatically sat down and read it from cover to cover. This is the book that every young lonely GLBT youth needs. It shows that we are not alone and that there are other teens out there just like us. It is a fabulos book and it is the best thinh that has happened to me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Courageous life stories, personality-filled photos
These beautiful and complex photographs depict humor, integrity, joy, pain, and courage. The photographer's technical expertise is matched and perhaps even surpassed by his eye for the "soul" of his subjects. The photos are complemented by first-person stories that reveal the journeys and challenges these young people have faced and overcome. It sounds corny, but this book made me proud of both the photographer and his subjects. This book does what great art and literature are supposed to do. It is uplifting and inspiring, and it lights the path toward a brighter future. ... Read more

I couldn't put this book down. The stories are true, they are full of personality, and on top of all that: they make a girl genuinely happy in her pants.
