disappointing in everything except for Wolfe�s writing
Windstorm Creative has released another short story in it's Delimit Nonpareil series.Death, Sweet Suitor Mine examines the "relationship" between Death and a woman struggling with a life threatening illness.As Chris Newport mentions in her introduction, "This isn't a light read." (p.5) She is quite correct.Death, Sweet Suitor Mine is a first person and intimate exploration of how the narrator views death.A touching, even haunting story, it lingers in the reader's mind.This is especially true given that this story was written by the late Chris Anne Wolfe, who died in 1997 after several years of struggling with cancer.Wolfe saw four fantasy adventure novels published in her life.Each of them is wonderful and it appears that her skill with short stories was equally impressive. two books in one
This book is based on a collection of interviews and due to use of colloquialisms and caribbean speech patterns, can be difficult for some to read. Tongues on Fire is actually two books, one a collection of lifestories, and the other, a collection of short fiction, written by LesbianCaribbean authors. In my opinion, this book may have been more effective ifactually edited as two separate collections. It was amazing to think thatthese stories reflected the experiences of modern day caribbean lesbianlives... in my mind, the experiences outlined seemed to come from the 40'sand 50's. The fictional stories were far more palatable that thebiographical ones, being less shocking, sweeter and, in some cases, storiesthat we, as American lesbians can identify with. Tongues on Fire reveals avery strong soul of survival in the lives it depicts. It makes clear a muchgreater fluidity of definition for lesbianism as seen by Caribbean and/orWest Indian women. It brings to mind the importance of economic freedom andindependence and reminds us (amazingly) how fortunate women are in the USto have more control and more choices in our lives. Tongues on Fireillustrated clearly how the lack of either of these factors can leave somewomen with very little choice in life. Many of the lesbians featured inthis book were or are married. Most felt that they had no choice other thanto have a man in their life. This is a totally different culture andattitude than the one to which many lesbians in the US are accustomed. Thisbook touches on a wide array of issues from the definition of lesbianism,to coming out, to bisexuality, to prostitution and many issues in between.You may not love this book, but it's probably going to give you pause tothink about who you are and where you came from. ... great stories
this is a great buy.the stories are interesting, the plots well-developed, the characters believable.yeah, so maybe 3 full stories can be a little intimidating, but it is SO worth it.

This anthology is worth every penny!All three stories are well written, and once you have finished reading, you will feel you have gotten your money's worth.The book that stands out over the other two books is, "How Still My Love" by Dianne McGavin.When I read it, I was saddened to find I was finished!I wanted to know what happened to the main characters beyond what was in the book.The characters are those I could imagine knowing.They are not like people who are so perfect, they only exist in books.The author draws you into the characters' lives so that you feel you know and understand them.The book will make you laugh & cry.It is a page turner & you may not be able to put it down.You will be yearning for a sequel by the end! ...
