5-0 out of 5 stars Sci-Fi Kick
I've found Gun Brooke to be a versatile writer.I'm not much of a Sci-Fi fan, but I enjoyed the characterization in this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Don't judge by the cover!
Twice I put this back on the cyber shelf because of the cover. It just looks so cheesy and the portrait of the commander is, sorry Gun, awful. The book looked to be a mess of a amateur sci fi/lesbian adventure. With welcome surprise,I found instead a thoughtful, well paced adventure/love story.Good character development and a broad supporting cast helped to maintain interest and added depth to the story. The author set up for the sequels solidly without leaving readers hanging in this novel.Great job, looking forward to the continuations.

4-0 out of 5 stars We're Everywhere...
If you're a sci-fi fan and read lesbian fiction, this book should be on your bookshelf. The ultra-talented Gun Brooke introduces what this reader hopes will be a multi-volume series based in the far reaches of outer space.Admittedly, I am not generally a big fan of sci-fi on the written page and prefer it on the small or big screen. However, Brooke does a really nice job separating the personalities of her characters from their setting... she does this while also intermingling them seamlessly.

5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific read - one you won't put down until the last page !
This is a wonderful story with great characters. It's also hilarious and filled with moments of intense angst. It is centered around the friendships we make in childhood that sometimes lead to love, hurt and betrayal. It was a total joy to read! With a total big bang surprise ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lesbians in the Wild West Rock!!
This book blew me away. Where else can you get the wild west, suspense and lesbian romance? Three of my favorites. I just recently discovered Radclyffe. Have I been missing out!!! She is fantastic and her books are all great. My shelf is quickly filling up with her name. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Promising Hearts, Innocent Hearts sequel.

Three years ago, this was my first Radclyffe read.It opened my eyes to the phenomenal writer's talent and I've enjoyed her stuff ever since.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoy a little Sci-Fi
I'm not a Sci-Fi reader, but this novel was good.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Characters, Nice Fantasy
I absolutely loved Sword of the Guardian - it took me a little while to settle into the book but that was only the first few pages - once I'd gotten myself settled into a different world frame of mind and mystical sounding names - i was hooked. I soon got caught up in the mystical world and the two main characters. I thought the main characters were developed extremely well and very slowly. I began to care what happened to these people. There's a few twists in the story, which builds up slowly over a four year period. A nice romance built on the good versus evil plot.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well written and tightly edited epic novel of Medieval Fantasy

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to the collection
My only complaint is that the books don't come out more often! Other than that, Bechdel's humorous social commentary is as fresh as ever. I've been a fan for over 15 years and am always impatient for the next book to come out. Sure, I can go online and read the strip there, but it seems more gratifying to me to read them all at once in book form.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart, edgy, controversial...and never dull
I had never heard of Alison Bechdel or Dykes to Watch Out For until I was fortunate enough to hear her speak at a diversity conference I attended. She was witty and poignant and I picked up this book and bought it. So I started at the end of a series which I have now gone back and read from the beginning and I love it! This particular book was a great collection (obviously enough to hook me in) that made me laugh, think, and reflected moments in my own life, despite my being heterosexual. What I love about her characters is they are real, smart, interesting women. What I hope for is the day when they are present in the comic pages of national newspapers rather than just liberal lesser known publications. One day we won't have to have a special Lesbian/Gay genre...it will just be incorporated into mainstream media the way the heterosexual experience is today. Support such a world by investing in her work and supporting others like her. Open your mind to new experiences and laugh a little in the process.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this strip!
This is one of my favorite comics.I love Alison Bechdel!I have all of the books, and I have been a fan for about 8 years. She's always so funny and insightful. It's like reading a soap opera.I can hardly wait for each installment. You really get to know and love all of the characters, and it's hard not to get emotional over the story lines.Everyone should read all of her books. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Sports Story ever
Without hesitation, I would call this the best sports novel I have ever read. Levin truly understands the meaning of sport being a reflection of life. Her portrayal of human emotion in this book is simply amazingly raw and realistic.
2-0 out of 5 stars Awful
I read this in a desperate search for good lesbian fiction.Since it had such good reviews, I thought I might have a winner.Wrong! This book is really awful.I found myself wondering halfway through why I was even finishing it.I guess I was hoping it would get better. Wrong again.3-0 out of 5 stars From the perspective of a competitive swimmer
I am a competitive swimmer, and in reading Sea of Light by Jenifer Levin I found some parts of the competitive swimming world were accurately depicted, while others were not. Jenifer Levin had many aspects of the competitive swimming world right on the mark:the acute pain of the training, the prevalence of injuries, the days when everything feels just right in the water, and the days when it doesn't.Other parts of the book described the world of competitive swimming in a way that I found either inaccurate or misleading, which might lead a reader of this book who is not familiar with the sport to draw inaccurate conclusions.First, there were references to steriod use.Competitive swimming in the US is actually very "clean". Second, there was the over-emotionalizing of the training involved with the sport:for example, "Whatever we put our most into, like our time, and sweat, and blood, well, that is the thing we make our own.Because after a while, it smells like us.It tastes like us.After a while, it calls our name."Please! Most competitive swimmers I have known go to practice, work hard, then go home and carry on with their semi-normal lives. There simply isn't so much melodrama. Finally, there was the supposed connection between physical athletic training and physical sexuality. For example, Babe says, "Physical people may inevitably do a wide variety of physical things."It seemed to me a bit of a stretch to connect intense athletic training with a person's sexual identity and behavior. Still, in spite of the parts that I consider to be misleading or inaccurate, I enjoyed reading this book- there are just so few books with competitive swimmers as the main characters. However, this book is really more about relationships and the search for one's identity, with the world of competitive swimming as the backdrop. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cops and Docs... Typical, Wonderful Radclyffe
It's no secret to anyone who has read my reviews that Radclyffe is my favorite author. That doesn't mean she automatically rates a 5, but it's certainly deserved here.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Romance But a Better Mystery
The gist of this novel is as described elsewhere.
4-0 out of 5 stars Full of Hot, Passionate...
Shield of Justice by Radclyffe is the first book in the Justice series. Radclyffe is not shy about giving us what we want. This book is full of hot, passionate sex intermingled with a serial rapist investigation. Detective Sergeant Rebecca Frye is in hot pursuit of the rapist, when she meets psychologist Catherine Rawlings. Rawlings is in a position to help in the investigation, but loyalty to her patient puts her at odds with Rebecca. There is an immediate attraction between the two and as they begin to explore their attraction, there are a few turns for the worse in the case and Catherine finds herself right in the middle of the investigation and in extreme danger. This puts Rebecca in a precarious situation, and tension builds as the story continues to develop.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad mystery
Ellen Hart's mysteries are a pleasure to read. They have great characters, a cozy setting, and wonderful descriptions of food! This book does not disappoint on any of the above. Despite being able to see the ending coming, I would still reccommend this a a good mystery. And it's nice to know that Jane has finally found a new love interest - as a lesbian I just wish that Ellen Hart would develop that aspect of Jane's character a little more. At times Jane just seems a little too assimilated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of An Intimate Ghost by Cheri
Ellen Hart is the mistress of mystery. "An Intimate Ghost" is no exception to the wonders of the remarkably talented, award-winning author known for her intricate plots, witty dialogue, flawless characterizations, and engrossing stories. "An Intimate Ghost," the continuation of the Jane Lawless series, touted as the best one yet, has been deservedly nominated for a Lambda Literary Award and the Golden Crown Literary Society Award for 2005.
5-0 out of 5 stars Midwest Book Review, April 2004 Issue
In this twelfth installment of the Jane Lawless mystery series, the opening prologue begins with a gripping kidnapping that takes place on Halloween in 1972. The circumstances of that prologue don't connect up for some time, but the shadow of the kidnapping hangs over the events that follow. In the present day, Jane Lawless is called to the location of a wedding her staff is catering. The guests are behaving oddly, and it quickly becomes clear that they've been poisoned with something hallucinogenic. The police come, and the wedding guests are rushed to the hospital, but not before the Nick, the bridegroom, is badly injured diving into an empty swimming pool. Jane is frantic. Not only is she upset that people have been injured after eating her catered food, but she also fears lawsuits. Who would do such a terrible thing? She can't believe her workers would have anything to do with it. Why has she been targeted?

5-0 out of 5 stars Thrilling Sequel
Under the Gun is a great book!Gun Shy left us all wanting more of these great characters and this sequel delivers! The plot is good through out and this book is a true page turner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review of "Under the Gun" by Cheri Rosenberg
In the second gripping police drama in Lori L. Lake's Gun series, "Under the Gun" delightfully picks up where "Gun Shy" left off and sets the stage for the third novel, "Have Gun We'll Travel." Once you make the acquaintance of Officer Desiree (Dez) Reilly and her partner and lover Rookie Officer Jaylynn (Jay) Savage, you won't be able to get enough of this dynamic duo. The two cops are as different as night and day in appearance and personality. Always the macho cop, Dez, affectionately referred to as "tall, dark, and dangerous," maintains a tough impenetrable shell and demeanor to hide her fears. "[Jaylynn] liked the fact that there was a defensive fortress around her taciturn partner, but that the tall cop had let her find the few chinks in the armor so that she had free access to come and go as she pleased" (p. 378). Dez contains her emotions until the breaking point, while Jay is not embarrassed or afraid to show her feelings. "It occurred to [Dez] that one major thing she liked about Jaylynn was how alive she was. She took on life with zest, whether she was investigating a crime, talking on the phone, eating something tasty, making love, or crying at a sad movie" (p. 271).
5-0 out of 5 stars A sequel as fine as "Gun Shy"
A continuation of her excellent first novel and just as good. Along with all of the romance and relationship angst and suspense and a well relayed tactile sense for her setting (I would actually get cold at times while reading from her description of the environment) the thing I liked most about this novel was the presentation of an empathetic, funny, real, genuinely helpful shrink, if only they could all be as intelligent and insightful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Happy Holidays!
Mavis has done it again...great story and lots of sex! I enjoyed this story of two women that have known each other since they were six. They went through their first kiss, first heartbreak, and lots of break-ups and make-ups in between. This book is about true love and the power of soulmates. Lindsey is a fiesty little blonde and Tressa is the love of her life...and a doctor at that! By the force of nature or should I say by force of thy mother, the two women are thrown back together after being apart for a decade as Tressa must take Lindsey home for the holidays. Will they be able to overcome the misunderstanding of their past or will there always be something standing in their way to a happy ending? Home for the Holidays is a very easy, enjoyable read! You will fall in love with the characters and their families. It would be great if all parents were as execepting as Tressa and Lindsey's. This book is packed full of wicked humor, love, lust, and lots of sex! Did I mention a wacked out ex-girlfriend/stalker? This book is great and I am sure to keep it in my collection to read again! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars refreshing story
What a refreshing lesbian story! No crude language or disrespecting sex scenes.Watching two mature women fall in love while suffering hardships few of us could imagine was endearing.Being in a relationship of 25 years, we "older" lesbians know that successful relationships have little to do with random sex and communication littered with four letter words.Beautifully written. There are several sub-plots also relating to the nature of enduring family relationships.
2-0 out of 5 stars Too innocent is correct and not a romance
I agree with the review of too innocent. Didn't really get the connection between characters. Being born & bred Wisconsinite - I really wanted to like the book, however I found it unrealistic, for instance in one paragraph the character is getting a bad gash sewn together, then then next text is that it is healed in a few weeks. Also, the 'wild' area is not that remote maybe 50 yrs ago, or maybe the UP just maybe but not the area she talked about. Theres people there all the time now. Romance it was not. Survivalist but not the raw emotion romance that can come from surviving.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very Innocent
A disappointing read for someone who enjoys serious romance. Explicit details on how to catch a fish or build a fire in the wilderness, but the romance consisted of just telling the reader they made love. Appropriate perhaps for teenagers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!
This was my 1st Megan Carter book but based on this story, I'd definitely read something else by her.Very sweet romantic story that I have read twice in the 3 days I've had it! Well-written and likable characters, the book also has a good sub-plot concerning an older lesbian couple and their Texas ranch. The best part though was watching Sara realize who her true love really is (some yummy sex scenes!!).Wish the story had never ended!

4-0 out of 5 stars High School Buddies

I loved Carter's first book, but didn't care too much for her second book. This one is a great comeback for a talented author.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just O.K.
I purchased this book two weeks ago...I'm finally finished. It was o.k. The story kind of dragged and I had to force myself to continue reading it, unlike Bliss.I would recommend borrowing it from the library.

4-0 out of 5 stars A True Page Turner
I must say my expectations were very high after reading Bliss. I'm happy to report I was not let down. The book was awesome. Fiona wasn't scared to go places other writers wouldn't. She explored that underground world that most of us dream about or would like to explore but are to shy to try or even admit it.Great book, well written the only thing I would have like to see added would have been a few more chapters to show how the relationship progressed before getting to the commitment stage.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love Conquers All...
Fiona Zedde returns with her sophomore novel, A TASTE OF SIN.Written in her literary style of prose and with a lyrical approach, Zedde tells the story of Desiree 'Dez" Nichols and how for so long she has run away from love only to run right into it anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous! Dynamite Read!
The lives of Katherine "Kate" Kyle, now Press Secretary to the President of the United States and Jamison "Jay" Parker, Time Magazine writer, continue in this dynamic and action-packed sequel to the intriguing and suspense-filled books, The Price of Fame and The Cost of Commitment.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best in the series
There are plenty of surprises in this exciting story and the author has pulled everything together for a book that has pace, interesting characters, and a good ending. Although the writing could be better, Ms. Ames has improved heaps since her last two books and personally, I'd rather read a book like this than a perfectly written one that is boring. The Value of Valor kept me reading and made me finish with a big smile. I can't give it five stars because I only do that with the very best books I read. 4-0 out of 5 stars The beginning novel of a wonderful fantasy series
This novel sets the stage for the three (so far - 2006) of the Tristaine series.Has an S & M feel to it but goes deeper than that as it moves along and develops the characters who grow through the next two books.I enjoyed the adventure and read The Clinic twice because it had been some time since I first read it and had purchased Tristaine II so went back before forward!Quick read and fun!The depth of books II and III are better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting & different
"The Clinic" is the first of the Tristaine Triology.
4-0 out of 5 stars Love Can Be Found in the Strangest Places
Not normally a fan of science fiction or futuristic tales, this reader took a chance on the recent re-released `Clinic' from Cate Culpepper because it was recommended by friends.I'm happy to report said friends have not disappointed me yet.
