4-0 out of 5 stars Big fun
"Peculiar Passions" is a lively and bawdy romp set during the late 1600s. Elizabeth's mother has died and her prospects are dim because of her father's debts. She gives nightly ministrations in her bed to her maid, and doesn't look forward to marriage. Jack (born Jacqueline) has been dressed as a boy since a young age, and with a wooden phallus completing her disguise, none of the women she beds knows the difference, and in fact, her reputation as a lover spreads and she finds women lining up at her door. Each was given a special locket by her mother, and these lockets want to be joined back together, and events slowly progress to this rendezvous. Jack eventually ends up on a pirate vessel, where her talents as a lover are again in demand. Elizabeth enters into a marriage of convenience and her path leads her to the same pirate ship and to Jack. They find that the two lockets form a single map to the maligned Mermaid Island, but what will they find when they arrive? Full of romance, adventure, and lots of sex (mostly between women), "Peculiar Passions" is a great delight. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It ain't vanilla!
It's so refreshing to see even a small volume reflecting a world of working class dykes. It seems dyke visibility has been subsumed by vanilla lesbians in Sport Utility Vehicles, wearing North Face jackets. The"erotica" which is published to appeal to these women may suitthem just fine, but I'll take this passionate, vibrant volume over wretchedcollections of short stories any day. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Journey into imagination
This eagerly awaited follow-up to "Exile and the Heart" is a collection of short stories exploring lesbian desire, sex, and love. The first half is populated with sensual erotica, ranging from love stories to kink. In the second half, Kobayashi adds elements of fantasy to her tales, merging the mythic with the erotic. "Quixotic Erotic" is a glorious example of reader seduction. Kobayashi is a marvelous storyteller and this collection just whets whatever appetites the readers bring. I hope it won't be so long before she gives us more. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not much to say...
The plot lines are treated very silly, the dialogue is simple, and the descriptions are stale. This is the equivalent of a bad TV-movie-of-the-week.It's not even good in a campy way, just boring. In the hands of a better author it could've been very complex and entertaining, though. Save your money and pass on this book. Wish I had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great surprise
I agree with the first reviewer. This book was a gift and much to my surprise it was a wonderful story. It is thoughtful, tasteful, and from beginning to end you are there. I also read many parts again and again. It is one of my most favorite books.4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful Surprise
Considering I rarely read 'Westerns' I was delighted to find that the writer had crafted a story that was both engaging & interesting.Unlike the majority of works avaliable today the plot was well thought out,the characters believable & the ending a wonderful surprise. To behonest, I've re-read the ending severial times. Even the more adult areaswere softly spoken, one is not forced into a graphic rendation of love buta wonderful rendation. This is a book I can very much suggest you read, even with its adult orintated sections. One is left wondering whathappened after the last page.It is a book I will give to my daughter toread when she is old enough.Quite honestly, I rarely like sequals yet inthis case I very much hope she writes one. I very much look forward toreading it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.
This book was purported to be an exploration of lesbian sub/dom sex, of bdsm exploration. In fact, I found problems with the book, and one strong suit.4-0 out of 5 stars An exciting read which works on many levels
No Angel is one of the best written erotic novels I have read in a long time.In addition to the obligatory (and beautifully described) sex, it also offers some excellent, slick and at times comic writing of the highestquality.4-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!

4-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Book About Lesbians... So Far That Is!
Of all the erotica I've read so far, and I have read a lot, this is my favorite story about lesbians. When reading erotica I don't limit myself to M/F stories, I'll read anything. Ms. Tyler draws very steamy pictures for me, and the way she handles the "hush hush" topic of Dominance/Submission really appeals to me.She is explicit and exact in the details of her scenes, but she also gives the reader some idea of the thoughts and emotions of the characters in the scene. It's not about the pain, although that is certainly part of it. It's more about the power struggle between the characters and their coming to terms with what they really want in a relationship.I really like the way Ms. Tyler tells her stories, and I look forward to many more from her.

Editorial Review

Playing out fantasies that won't effect our daily realities is a potent lure for people who inhabit computer chat rooms. In this mesmerizing novel, Martha Baer talks about that phenomenon and adds the potent element of obsession with an online but otherwise unknown lover. Francesca is the online persona of Elaine, a promising young professional who exhibits much savvy while making her way up the corporate ladder. By night, though, as Francesca, she becomes the willing submissive lover of Inez. When Elaine slips and reveals her true identity, Inez disappears, leaving Elaine searching frantically for Inez--with unexpected consequences. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
Luckily, I bought this book used, and after shipping and handling it only cost me about four bucks.Of course, I could have flushed four dollar bills down a toilet, and watching them go around in circles before disappearing would have been more entertaining than reading this book. The sex wasn't sexy, the "mystery" was predictable, and the characters were really obvious and boring.Don't waste your time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Total Waste of Time!!!
I thought this book sounded interesting.Unfortunately, Ms. Baer took a good idea and ruined it.The charactors were not believable, the main charactor was a self obsessed bore. The plot was ridiculous, no people are motivated to further their carrers simply by online sex.I kept reading in hopes that it would get better or become more interesting, only to be dissapointed.2-0 out of 5 stars A bloody bore
I didn't like the characters in this book -- I found them shallow and self-absorbed and, by extension, boring.Actually, it read more like a long, heavily-researched magazine article. I wasn't surprised to learn that the author used to write for Wired Magazine, a (very good) publication that caters to geeks.Nuff said. ... Read more

Editorial Review

In her smart, brief introduction to this collection oflesbian travel erotica, Linnea Due makes a case for the relationshipbetween travel--which is about displacement, movement, and foreignness--and Eros. This volume bringstogether work from well-known lesbianauthors such as Barbara Wilson, Linda Smukler, and Jess Wells as well asstories by newcomers. The range is astonishing, from a wryvignette of a seduction over a map by Shelly Rafferty to a frighteningspeculative fiction by Myrna Elana set in a post-holocaust world wherepeople live in underground tunnels. Some of the settings are moreexpected, such as a night train through Europe, or cyberspace, butall of thestories explore how lesbians cross borders, both sexual andgeographic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart, Tasty, and Raunchy
Wow! I'd read some of Philips' stories in the past in different anthologies such as the Best Gay Erotica series so I knew what I might expect. I purchased his second collection, Satyriasis, first, and devoured it in days. Should have bought them at the same time! I ran out and got his first, See Dick Deconstruct, the same day I finished Satyriasis. Both of these collections rock! He's a fantastic storyteller, weaving amazing characters, locations, themes, and a glorious array of sexual appetites, into something far more than powerful than any other erotic writer I've ever read. This is biting, smart satire, all wrapped up in tasty, raunchy fun. Get both collections!

This book was a waste of time.If this had not been on a required reading list for a college course, I would have trashed the book after 15 pages.Save your money and go to a peep show. The booth will be in a better shape than the writing in this book

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, Sexy, Smart
I had read a few of Ian Philip's stories before in past Best Gay Erotica volumes so I knew he was amazing, but nothing prepared me for this collection. It's fantastic! Crazy characters, witty dialog, and hot, hot, hot sex! It's funny, sexy, and smart. Ian Philips is one of the best erotic writers I've ever read. 3-0 out of 5 stars A volume of lesbian stories
Even though Lindsay Welsh is one of my favorite authors of lesbian erotica, I still found 3 to be the correct rating for this book.
