No doubt I'll be lambasted for lack of political correctness, but I'd probably like this anthology better if the word "lesbian" wasn't in the title!

Loved It!!!!
Boy, I'm glad I had some privacy while reading this book!The variety of lesbian interactions was exhilariting, kept me panting and wanting more.There was true intimacy as well as hot & steamy sex.I only wish that there were a few more stories.I finished the book in one evening.

Pretty good, yet pretty thin
I love this book. It is pretty creative, and she exlpores subjects ( erotically by the way) butch femme roles, one night stands, and stuff like that. They situations were good too. My one major beef about this book was it didnt have enough pages for the price. I cab buy thick paper back books for this price. but if thin books dont bother you then this is a great read when you are in the mood for some "spice"

When I hear the word "erotica" i think "hot and steamy." This book was tepid at best. After reading Kathleen E. Enjoyed this anthology tremendously

Sizzling Hot and LESBIAN
Like Szymanski's first anthology, Back to Basics, this collection sizzles, start to finish. Every story is strong and well-told and focuses almost exclusively on really hot lesbian sex. Women with women doing women in the dark. It's a keeper.

Hot!
I thought this collection was hot, sexy and a real turn-on.I dug the fact that the pieces were purely imagination and, unlike another reviewer, found the lesbian stories just as sexy as the gay male stories.
Getting a rise out of Switch-Hitters
Switch-Hitters is a much needed creative twist in the realm of queer erotica and it gives some insight into how lesbians and gay men view eachother's sexuality. Sorry - needs reworking
It seems that lesbians writing as gay men do a better job of it than gay men as lesbians.Likely that lack of experience with female sexuality among the men limits their knowledge, so that they imagine that the female orgasm is as easy-to-provoke as their own. (Certainly honest accounts of women's experiences have been historically harder to come by, no pun intended, than masculine accounts and descriptions.) There were too few memorable personalities in this book. I could always "tell" that a man was writing the lesbian point of view. When does Zach get his own anthology?
I purchased this entry in the series because of Zach's stunningly erotic "Bike Boy," which I rate the hottest piece of erotica - written, drawn, or filmed - I've ever seen. Not simply because the story-line and action are a pell-mell erotic variation on the theme of innocence initiated, but because the artist is truly that: an artist. He knows, and has obviously studied, and mastered, anatomy and design; the action in his panels is never badly imagined or executed (or just suggested, as in so much mediocre erotica.) It's exciting, fresh, imaginative, and drawn with beauty and extraordinary concision. He isn't just drawing penises and rectums - he's depicting the way male bodies react to sex, fully and with complete abandon. Besides knowing where all the body parts go - at every moment and from whatever angle he draws and whatever position that body in - Zach knows how to make those bodies, angles, and positions the most arousing. Winston Leyland's MEATMEN books each contain a widely varied mix of styles among their contributors. With 160 pages on good paper with slick covers, they're a sizeable package (to borrow a turn of phrase), although I question the choice of some of the material.Amateurish below-fanzine-level hackwork is presented side-by-side with stunning, exceptionally high-quality art, and this may turn off some potential paying customers.Read more

A pleasant intro to women's erotic literature
I have this book as part of an anthology of Herotica 1, 2 & 3. If you're new to reading erotica or just want a little something to keep beside the bed, this is an excellent collection. The stories are well-written with interesting characters and fully-developed storylines. The intensity of the collection ranges from a breath on the neck to a full-fledged you-know-what. Whatever your tastes, you will find something to enjoy here. This is an excellent book to start your personal collection of erotic fiction. Follow up with Herotica 2 & Herotica 3.

I'd give this book two thumbs up if I could.
I bought this book as a reference for a graduate thesis I'm writing on herotica.I didn't plan on actually reading it, because I already know everything there is to know about herotics: how they oppose certainfundamental doctrines of the Church, how they're asked to recant, andhow--sad but true--the Church often does painful, unpleasant things to themto make them "see the light."Galileo was a herotic, you know. Well, something told me (let's call it "woman's intuition"because it really was a womanly type of intuition) that Herotica might havea different take on the issue.And boy, does it ever!I knew the Churchdidn't like herotics, but had no idea that it could be so--so inhuman inpunishing them!Be warned: there's a lot of gore in this book!Sensitiveparts get pressed against other sensitive parts, bosoms are heaved all overthe place with no thought to where they might land, and all sorts ofherotics are forced to put their mouth on things that must taste quiteunpleasant.I'm glad Galileo never had to do _that_!But it's veryinformative, and my only complaint is that it doesn't tell you what theherotics did wrong--and if I don't know, how am I supposed to avoid thatsort of torture being inflicted on me?What a big stupid ninny the Churchis...oops!I'm in for it now! ... Excellent Collection
Great saucy, sexy lesbian erotica that pulls you along with each page. Of the several books in this genre have come out in the past few years, this one is really the best. It definitely kept me up "after midnight." :-)

Unless you have an extra ten bucks...
...don't buy this book. Strangely, all of the short stories (with the exception of two or three) seem to have the same feel and writing style, as if the same author (or perhaps the editor), wrote all of it herself.

Not an introductory text for lesbian lifestyles, Pat Califia's latest collection of leathery erotica probably has a built-in readership among aficionados of the S/M underworld. Even those who don't share her kinks will find her among the most original and skillful writers in the field, with a flair for gender-bending scenarios and a particular talent for the one-line putdown--usually of demanding lovers who can't tell their riding crops from their cats-o'-nine-tails. In "Too Much Is Almost Enough," a submissive femme dubbed "Jasmine" by her lover Wolfe is encouraged to share her charms with Wolfe's friends in a sexual rite of passage. Much better than Macho Ssssluts!
This book rocks.I didn't even mind the hetero Frankie and Johnnie, if it was in fact hetero.Dolly was chilling and amusing...very creative, Ms. Califia!I didn't care for the Mercy/No Mercy bit in there...trying to be too clever for my tastes I think.All in all, this book definitely outclasses her Macho Sluts book and is a good purchase...esp. if you can get it for its discounted price on Amazon. I couldn't even believe what a good book this is.I picked up a few books to keep me occupied while my partner was away for awhile and this one earned a place next to my bed.If you want to feel your toes curl I recommend picking this book up.

Sizzling!
If you're after detailed plots, long slow buildups to a scanty sex scene, then look elsewhere. This anthology (from the editor of "Best Lesbian Erotica") is pure sizzle from start to finish. The stories are mainly light-hearted, more of a summer romp than dark tales, but the book scorches. Summer heat permeates the pages and the characters.

Among the several narrative strands in Anna Livia's complex and rewarding new novel, it is hard to say which story is more engrossing. A sexually abused girl named Patti becomes a man-killing dyke. Despite her promiscuity, no one sparks her romantic interest until she meets Caroline. Caroline has flown to San Francisco to escape her abusive English lover and finds, at last, a place of calm and order in which to work. Her friend and employer, Sydney, a hermaphrodite, falls in love with Caroline but ends up in a far more interesting relationship with a straight and formerly conventional Englishman named Harold. It may be the character of Harold, an ordinary bloke, that lifts this book above the rank and file of lesbian novels. Puzzled but determinedly in love, Harold is the unexotic Everyman that grounds these eccentric characters who might otherwise seem standard issue for gay and lesbian fiction. Well-written, fully realized, and occasionally surprising, this is Livia's best novel yet. Read more

There have been few books I read again and again, and I never know, on first reading, which these will be.What will weather innumerable moves, love changes, head changes?Some of these are great (brothers karamatzov, for instance--and I've only read that 1.3 x), a lot of them are great/genre (Madeline L'Engle's young adult books, or Pat Califia's porn--all very soft-pawed) but most of them are 1. A smorgasboard of eroticsim for who .......
I gave this book a one star rating since half the stories were from the USA not making this an INTERNATIONAL book to be sold in the USA by any means. Missing from the anthology were any stories from India (considering its one of the only countries with temples dedicated to the erotica) and only one story from Japan (a dumb story I might add that included scenes of girls rubbing bacon on their bodies) Too many sex-negative stories
Most of the stories in this volume are clever, well-written, and fashionably postmodern. But that doesn't make them sexy! Story after story, I kept feeling that many of these authors just plain don't like sex. A fewstories are fun and sexy, but these are very rare. The book has sex galore,but very little of it is what I'd call erotic.

Vol.20:Mythological Creatures, the Great Outdoors, etc.
Gerald Donelan has 15 cartoons this Volume, including both color covers!Other highlights:"Coley:Bayou Boy" by John Blackburn, in which the blonde voodoo boy has fun with a guy he meets in a riverfront bar (at least, until they're interrupted); "Mythology Revisited" by The Hun, wherein he experiments with fully-rendered graytone art;"Big Lay Down The Highway" by Farraday, a fun tale about truckers shot from pencilled art (I just wish this guy would take some DRAWING classes!);"A Wedding In The Family" by Kurt Erichsen, a comedy involving a guy trying to deal with a possessive mother; and "Dune Buggers" by Sean, in which a guy celebrates his birthday outdoors in the wild-- with a wild pack of friends!

Vol.15:SCI-FI Theme Issue
If only for the subject matter (more than the quality of the art, as usual) this was one of my favorite Volumes in this series.Most (if not quite all) the contributors did stories with a sci-fi angle-- robots, time-travel, space ships, you name it.Read more
