5-0 out of 5 stars Infused with wave after wave of enjoyable reading!
A number of stories are a true specialty, and this enactment of is a painless reading trek of simple interpretation, laced with interesting and somewhat sexy dialogue and well developed characterizations, especially Caitlin and the strong willed Susan, who are infused with wave after wave of indelible human truth. Genuinely surprised by the plot, and the dominatrixes and submissives, and designed toys and other tools of the trade you will come up, I had to stay up until after midnight to finish it. Even though I've found I have some issues with the loose editing of the book, it never- the-less rates gold stars across the board. Great, enjoyable book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot, skillfully written, and not for the faint of heart
In the chapters of _Sensuous Magic: A Guide to S/M for Adventurous Couples_, Patrick Califia alternates between the roles of intelligent sex-ed instructor and teller of lascivious tales. If the world is a just place, then _Sensuous Magic_ surely earned him masses of enthusiastic fan mail begging for more of the latter (oh, please, Sir!), to follow his previous erotic fiction collections _Macho Sluts_, _Melting Point_, _No Mercy_, and _Hard Men_. _Boy in the Middle_ is his latest answer to that plea. In his new book, shapeshifting Califia once again demonstrates his skill at getting inside the skin of an amazing variety of characters. He offers eleven steamy and tightly-crafted tales, each different from the others. I warn you, this one-handed reading is not for the faint of heart. It brings to life a wide variety of queer scenarios, vampire tales and s&m stories. These subjects will not suit all readers. But Califia's fans will find his style in top form, with its surprises, humor, and human touches. I especially like the range of ways the characters solve the dilemma of having only one imperfect body in which to live out multiple sexes and fantasies. I suppose the title _Boy in the Middle_ refers to the multifarious scenarios and sexualities that a "boy" of whatever gender might get into. (This is not a book about threesomes, though if Califia wrote one it would surely be scorching -- Patrick, are you listening?). _Boy in the Middle_ is a gift from a guy who has done some hard thinking about sex, who writes well and knows how to put together a hot story. This is a rare combination. Enjoy it if you dare. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, knowledgeable author
I have had the pleasure of both reading this book and speaking with Mr. Brough on several occaisons at various leather functions.I have found him a very decent and knowledgeable person. He knows his subject well and enjoys sharing his knowledge.
5-0 out of 5 stars FISTING MADE FASCINATING
When Tim told me the subject of FIRST HAND , I was doubtful that the subject would lend itself to a complete book, but I underestimated the boy. It offers a wide variety of fascinating and erotic glances at one of gay sex's most popular sports. There are first hand accounts of fisting, funny and serious;a thoughtful historical background; words of medical wisdom cunningly presented;and, finally, a wonderfully exciting and moving novella of a first timer and a wise mentor. Even if fisting isn't your scene, it's still a very good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Notes From The Author
I'm Tim Brough, and I collected a wide variety of information for my latest book. "First Hand: An Erotic Guide To Fisting" starts with a history from noted Leather historian Jack Fritscher Ph.D. (which reads like a chronology of San Francisco through '60's and '90's) and ends with a hot piece of fiction from former Drummer magazine contributor and disabled-rights advocate, Michael Agreve. In between I covered health with a Doctor and Physical Therapist, club life with two club presidents, the online experience via the webmaster of the RedRightWeb site, a man who recounted his first encounter with footing, and, in the book's sixth chapter, dozens of brief interviews where the participants related their thoughts about handballing to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Anais Nin, but all lesbian
Anais Nin is sometimes too poetic and well-written to be truly erotic. Her elevated language can be so cerebral that the nether regions disengage. I found that true in this anthology at times - but that doesn't mean that it, like Anais Nin, isn't worth exploring and savoring.
5-0 out of 5 stars Didn't know what to expect!
I bought this book because I really like two of the writers but the other two I'd never read. I figured I was sure to like half, and I'd also really liked "Back to Basics" from publisher Bella Afterdark. 4-0 out of 5 stars Buy it and live happily ever after ...
Once upon a Dyke: New Exploits of Fairy Tale Lesbians is an amusing and arousing quartet of novellas from four well-known lesbian writers.Culturally speaking, fairy tales were created for several reasons; community identity, teaching morality, and of course, as entertainment. Thus it is fitting for a group of lesbian authors to reconsider fairy tales and ask in their introduction, "Why were the heroines always pretty, pure, passive little things who needed rescuing? ....What was so charming about Prince Charming anyway?" pviiiRead more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting anthology

4-0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this second volume MORE than the first!
If I have a problem with this "Awakening the Virgin" series it's that it's not really about first-time lesbian encounters so much as women recalling a particular encounter they had later in life, or a particular woman.I guess I had hopes of more lesbian seduction.3-0 out of 5 stars A disappointing reawakening
I anticipated with eagerness the arrival of the followup tome to Awakening the Virgin part 1, a splendid and evocative celebration of lesbian relationships. However, the followup, while well-written, has none of the gentle, magical discovery of its earlier counterpart. This book will still hold appeal for the reader with kinkier or wilder interests, but may be too daring and elusive for more tentative, curious novices. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it !
I just love how the character Laura went from Odd Girl Out to this part of her life. Jack Mann is my type of guy I hated him at first since he seemed like a smart-...to me . But I started getting to know him through the whole series of Ann Bannon's books and he really is the Man.I was surpeised how the main character Laura became a strong yet brash woman and her acceptance on who she is almost brings tears to once eye. But I still think she's nuts. But its well written and I still read it over and over.

There's a lot of less accomplished cartoonists in this volume of Meatmen - A.J. Toos, "Farraday", Sean Martin - who bring the average visual appeal per page down a notch. Which is a great shame, because others of the regulars are in prime form.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intimate Chaos, Loved it!
I was pulled in from the start. I felt like I was there in the middle of all the drama. Believe me Sadira & Jesse will stay with you long after you've finished reading this book. The ups and many downs of their relationship had me on the edge. Thanks Cheril, for the wonderful experience.I can't wait for the sequel!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a book we can all relate to!
This is a great book and must read for anyone thats ever been in love.
5-0 out of 5 stars For your love, would I do anything?
This book takes you on an emotional journey unlike any other. Cheril N. Clarke has successfully mastered the art of storytelling. From page one through to the last page of this novel, the reader's immediately pulled in. You are able to relate to her characters, you can feel Sadira's pain. I saw myself in Sadira, and was shocked at how real this character was. Cheril N Clarke's words flow easily, which made for easy and enjoyable reading. I could not put the book down, and finished it within a few hours. This novel is by far the best I've read concerning relationships and love in ages. I recommend this book to everyone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars 'off' stories
I finished reading the book but was not at all immerssed within many of the storys as they involved incest lust, child lust, and some S/M which I am personally not into. I would have appreciated not having such perverse interests displayed as erotica.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love Marilyn Jaye Lewis!
I've been a fan of Marilyn Jaye Lewis since reading a story of hers in an old book called The Unmade Bed. I was thrilled to see a whole collection dedicated to her talent. Lust is an excellent collection -- one of the sexiest books I've ever read!

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing special
I'm afraid I'm not impressed. To say any of this functions as good fiction is a real stretch of kindness. OK, so there's a plotline here and there. But most of these stories are smut that's aspiring to be literary. Good try. But not successful. There are other books out there that can manage the blend of the erotic and the literary. This definitely ain't one of them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny !!
This anthology is a keeper if only for one story, Karin Kallmaker's 'The Curve of Her' which has the two beloved characters from her novel 'Touchwood'.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cooking with Gas!
I *loved* this anthology, and I don't even identify butch or femme. There is a wonderful range of voices in it, lesbians all, and the butches still claim being women (fancy that!) and some of them even let the femme touch them back (wow!). Out of a half-dozen anthologies I've read in the last year, this is the only one where it's not just OKAY for the femme to touch the butch's genitalia, the butch encourages it as part of their exchange. A butch in a b/f couple I know recently said she was starting to wonder if there was something wrong with her liking to be flipped. I loaned her my copy of this anthology to reassure her that femmes doing butches isn't as rare as it seems in stories these days.
4-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
I normally don't buy anthologies. As other reviewers have said, it is rare to find more than 1 or 2 stories that I like. I am also not into the butch/femme thing.

Editorial Review

You would think a taste for gay leather daddies would hinder a girl's happiness, but as soon as Miranda's boyish charms attract the attention of Jack, a weathered, Harley-riding, "real done-up daddy," the doors to the San Francisco leather underworld swing open wide. The skills Miranda (a.k.a.Randy) has picked up in steamy bathhouses and behind park shrubbery come in handy with Jack and his friends. Though he resists defining their unusual relationship, Jack introduces Miranda to everyone as his "boy" and makes it clear that she is his to share. A series of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best erotic novel I've ever read.
When reading erotic novels, I tend to simply skip ahead to the "good parts" because the author usually fails to set up a world where I could care about the characters. The author's energies seem to go into writing sex scenes rather than a fully engrossing story.4-0 out of 5 stars fun, hot and bizzare
Miranda likes to dress up as a handsome boy and seduce gay men.She has a transsexual roommate and a penchant for hard core D/s sex.Yet she manages to be sweet, likable and somehow innocent in her wild messy sex games with the leather Daddy of her dreams.Jack, her affectionate mentor, dominant and guide is equally enjoyable.A fun fantasy that wanders all through a series of somewhat implausable, kinky and very hot adventures as Miranda explores Jack's world of gay Leathermen. The only real suspension of disbelief required is the way Miranda is welcomed with open arms when she intrudes into a world of gay men.But every book is allowed one.Once you're over that hurdle you are in for a fun ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars a most unusual love story
Carol Queen rules! This little book has all the humor, frankness, and hot hot action that I have come to expect from her work in various anthologies and magazines. This is the story of a young woman with a very hard tosatisfy kink--she loves strong, macho leather daddies. So she disguisesherself as a boy to pick up her tricks--sometimes successfully, more oftenresulting in disappointment when she reveals herself. Until she meets herdaddy--a man who is open to the erotic possibilities of a heterosexualrelationship! The true beauty of this story, though, is not the wellwritten and titillating sex(although it is VERY well written andtitillating!) but the sweet and loving relationship that develops betweenthe girl, her daddy, and his lover. Carol's writing always explores unusualsexual couplings with a strong eye toward the emotion behind the action, and this story is one of the best examples of her art. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag
Overall, I agree with the St. Paul reviewer above--some of this stuff is fairly extreme, and while most of it is reasonably well-written, quite a few of the stories lack broader appeal, cf. the threesome with a girl's live girlfriend and her dead ex, as well as a couple of bizarre sequences that I'm not sure fit the genre.Variety is always nice, especially when it comes to sex, and even more especially when you're just reading it and not participating. But this anthology tries to cover too many bases at once, which will probably make it a disappointment for most readers.Almost everyone will find three or four stories to love, but then there are the other three hundred pages.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ummm, maybe not the best choice for a newbie.
I'm 19, and I bought this book last year just as I was coming out. I guess I wasn't quite ready for it; I was a bit shocked at some of the agression, slang, and weird roleplaying that went on, like power games or something. If you're into that, then go for it. For those just starting to test the waters, you might want to try something like Early Embraces.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
Despite the title, involving 'lesbian erotica', this book is not just porn, as you may think. The short stories are very involved and wonderfully thought out- some don't have any sex at all, just a short plot that sets a characterization.Of course, when there *is* sex (which, honestly, happens very often), it's very well-written and hot... just what you'd expect a 'best of the best' to be.If you're looking for this sort of book, I'd definitely reccommend this over any others. ... Fans of police procedurals and the grittier murder mysteries will welcome Baxter Clare's debut novel, in which a hardened female police lieutenant, L.A. Franco, known as "Frank," tries to catch a serial rapist and murderer while stoically nursing her grief over the shooting death of her lover Maggie. 2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't know it was a lesbian based book...
I wouldn't have given it too many stars anyway. It was boring to me..too much police interaction and the subject was a little too weird but I somehow missed that it was also about lesbianism. I thought Baxter Clare was a man! That a lesbian wrote it doesn't matter to me..just the lesbian parts didn't interest me.

Clare's first novel, Bleeding Out, is a taut, gritty, psychological thriller set in contemporary South Los Angeles.Police Lt. L.A. Franco is a tough, tall, handsome, intelligent, dyke investigator.Years ago, the traumatic loss of her lover prompted Franco to shut down much of her personal life and focus on work.Years in one of the city's toughest districts have built an armor around Franco. 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Debut
Los Angeles Police Lt. L. A. "Frank" Franco is introduced here as she seeks the killer of a young girl. She eventually ties in nine rapes and four murders to the perpetrator. Franco is meticulous and thorough as she shifts through the few clues she has.The author painstakingly puts us into the mind of both the perpetrator and Franco. This is police procedural at its best. The characterizations are such that the reader cares about the main characters even the closed-off Franco. There are several minor characters that the author manages to fully flesh out as well although Franco's squad members are, at times, hard to identify because of her use of their nicknames - a minor flaw at best. This author deserves a wide audience.Let's hope the author and her publisher gives us more of Baxter Clare and Lt. Franco. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ada Lee is my hero
What a straaange concept.A bunch of girls (as P.C. as the power rangers) getting together for a naked party. Here's the catch - the only way to understand it is to read it under the influence of Mary Jane.

3-0 out of 5 stars Munroe's
Ada Lee is straight-up pornography. The story and dialogue aren't exactly what you'd expect to find in a porn film, but are nonetheless as redundant. The characters all speak and look very much alike - all girls. The only difference might be hairstyle and breast size. However, this is typical of illustrated porn. Read more
