5-0 out of 5 stars Real or Not! Fascinating!
Real contains letters between Dodie Bellamy (Mina Harker) and Sam D'Allesandro; a story that was taped by Sam before he died in 1988; and a long very emotional, heartbreaking letter by Dodie that concerns the subject of death.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Depressed, Dogged--but Low-Key Determined After All
"Poor Edward Field." Well, at least to hear HIM tell it. "I'm gay, a Jew, and a lefty...I feel oppressed on several counts." Plus he's depressed--been so, clinically, lifelong except for a short sunny interlude years ago. And now, he's older, too.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Funny, but at this price?
Cooper definitely gives you some "poetry" that can leave you holding your sides. Each verse is just a couple lines long...Each verse is accompanied by colorful drawings of a somewhat abstract nature.(Most of the book is actually the drawings.)In general, this might be a great gift for someone with a good sense of humor, and who can appreciate the underlying story behind each verse.I'm just not sure that you're getting what you pay for at this price.

1-0 out of 5 stars cliche-ridden
Really, what a boring book this is. So full of wretched stereotypes. Andthe price - for 2 minutes of amusement? Spare me!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Prefer"BRIEFS"
What a wonderful book.Truly fascinating.Walter Copper has given us a gay book of witty verses, and also included some wonderful drawings of men in briefs, etc. These are not drawings of real people but more like shadowdrawings, in the line of Keith Haring. There are so many wonderful poeticlines contained in these 79 pages. You'll read it through in one setting. The whole design of the book from the cover to the color pages is unique, clever, and artistic. The Astrological Heavenly Bodies section is great. I loved the verse: "Zest for life, a relish for men, given the choice I'dbe Gay again.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathless
You can read these poems a hundred times and each time they will take your breath away. The images are visceral; you feel the heat of the sun, the dryness in the throat, the texture of the cloth. Poems so good, you'll wish you could eat them. This is really an amazing start to what is sure to be a long and successful career. I look forward to more work from Raz.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL AND PERVERSE
A magical, breathtaking, wonderful book that captures the complexity and perversity of life in the so-called Holy Land. Through a series of powerful poems that always maintain a fascinating, delicate balance between the personal and the political, Yosefa Raz chronicles the bittersweet adventures of a young girl growing up in a world of historical majesty, dark sexuality, broken promises, familiar strangers, contagious violence, painful memories, mutual humiliation, and intoxicating yet terrifying sights, smells, and tastes. Brave poetry written with admirable precision, sensitivity, and honesty. A must. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good collection if you like poetry
If you like poetry and you like anthologies of poetry but wonder where all the good parts are, then this is a collection for you.Arranged by topic or activity addressed in the piece (there are five categories in all), this collection spans 2600 years of human work in the words of 122 individuals. There is some activity or topic for everyone but this means that some may be offended now and again by other pieces.Dillard has done a good job of collecting materials together though some historical background might be interesting too -- but then I'm a historian so that is one of my fetishes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poetry That Did Not Fall Through The Cracks
Here is whopper of a poetry assembled by a tireless poet himself, Gavin Dillard, also known by the title of "the Naked Poet" for going to Poetry Readings and appearing in the buff. This anthology contains manypoems that are stripped to the bare essentials like the editor himself. Ican say that you can flip open to any page and happen upon quirky originalworks that will draw you into the world of rich, exotic, verve-y works andit is similar to riding a magic carpet ride. I want to thank Gavin Dillardfor his dedicated work in assembling this collection. This book of goldennuggets is NOT for the timid....Caution: .....Mature Works Ahead.I amproud to be represented in this collection and encourage others in thiscollection to write their ideas in this arena offered by Amazon.Com andof course Readers too, and Book-buyers, who without we would not be here.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Writing What Is Human"
[This book brief appeared March 11, 1999, in Seattle's "The Stranger" and can be found online at http://www.thestranger.com/1999-03-11/books2.html]4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book
I ended up buying , reading, and actually liking this book, but not necessarily because of the poetry itself. Some of it's a bit bad, with clunky words and phrases that sometimes wander into seemingly unrelatedvagueness, though some of the images and lines are really good. What Ireally like about this book is what Cole has to say: his feelings, struggles, and perspective on himself and the world around him. It'sintense and powerful, just like some of the other reviews say.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must-read" poetry collection
I bought this book of poems after hearing a few friends talk about it and then reading all the good customer reviews here at Amazon.I have to say it really is an amazing book, and it really is one of the best books ofpoetry I have read in years. The poems are so sharp and so well-writtenand so harsh. He is our contemporary Robert Lowell.Anyone who likespoetry should take a look at this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The book casts a mighty spell...
A "queer" assortment of spells, from a play to a short story to one-half of a phone call, this book merges many worlds: living and dead, gay and straight, male and female, real and otherwise. From the opening title story, an ode to a lost friend, to "Weird Daddy," the ending tour de force of a half a conversation, Staszek shows a unique sensitivity and breathtaking insight. The individual pieces stun with wit, image, and wordplay; the entire collection resonates with a magical convergence. I was spellbound. ... Read more
