Editorial Review

For years, Tom Bianchi thought certain of his photographic studies of male nudes were unpublishable, too frankly erotic. Then a mentor explained to him that "the better pictures were the ones which took the viewer behind closed doors." For Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fall in Love With Bianchi
This was my second encounter with Tom Bianchi's work.It was more sexually changed than his first black and white foto collection, and in no way could it disappoint.Bianchi can make the male body so erotic with a subtle camera angle, or a gesture of the photographic subject, or the look on his subject's face, without making him appear pornographic.I am awed by this man's talent with a camera! This is no coffee table book, but definitely something for the night stand next to the bed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bianchi ...Better than Ever
It is impossible to fault Tom Bianchi's work. This collection, and its companion piece, OUT OF THE STUDIO, is a pictoral delight.Men in all of their glory are cleverly and artistically posed. There is in this book, a sense of innocence that makes Bianchi's work even more important.Their is NO attitude here, just handsome men being themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Manly Contact
"In 1991, with the release of Out of the Studio, Tom Bianchi revolutionized the way in which artists conceptualize and photograph men. The unselfconscious and affectionate contact between men that ischaracteristic of his photographs was a reality that had rarely beenreported in art." - text excerpt from Stoneweall Inn ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FLAWLESS
Italian men have a tendency of being just plain sexy. This book proves the concept in an elegant and eloquent way.The pictures of these men clearly bespeak the beauty of the nude male form, and the sensuality associated thereto. The models, locales, and themes of the pictures permit the viewer a buffet of magnificent
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Purchase
I would highly recommend this book to add to any collection. There is no text, just photographs all in color. Beautiful subjects, beautiful settings, beautiful poses. The male body is seen in various stages of sexual arousal, many in full arousal. This is truly a book of erotica. Again, well worth the purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lights, camera, muscles... drool at musclemen of yesteryear!
This delightful book of musclemen of yesteryear is both entertaining and educational for any historian of bodybuilding and the male body in art.Long before Bob Mizer captured hunky specimens in the buff, artists like Townsend were persuading handsome young men to strip and strike a pose. The early attempts at bodybuilding were pretty lumpy affairs, sorry, Sandow does not do it for me, but things get better with the debut of Townsend and his dreamy images of the athletic frame of Tony Sansone. The really good news is that early bodybuilders felt comfortable being photographed fully NUDE and this book is worth buying for these shots alone. The men are not the hard bodied gym freaks of the Arnie era, they are 'boys next door', which gives the photos a period charm. These classic studies have a cute, naive feel, with atmoshpheric light and thankfully, several images have escaped the airbrush to reveal the men's assets in all their glory. You have permission to pour over these stunning images of male nudity and you will find yourself drooling, hero-worshipping and marvelling at the pioneering skills of the early masters of the male nude in ALL its glory! These men would not past muster today as athletes, bodybuilders or pin-ups, but they make a refreshing and highly entertaining contrast to today's endless images of o-so-cute boyish east europeans.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tony Sansone Fan!
David Chapman has given us a great book of history showcasing early male bodybuilders, and nude male photography. This is a book of 100 pages of fine, rare, and well printed pictures of the early physique stars, andbodybuilders. These photographs cover the period from 1870 to 1940 and areaccompanied with a well-written text by David Chapman. There are manyphotographs of the legendary "Eugene Sandow", "Tony Sansone" and manyunknown male nude physique stars of that period. Many of the photos areof unknown men who were photographed in the studio.Of course, my favoritephotos are of Tony Sansone, who I idolized since I first seen his photosmany years ago when I was a young man.5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable History
A book to have, along with "Physique Pictorial" and "Hollywood Nudes", to appreciate the history and background of male bodybuilding and nude male photography. David Chapman's excellent textprovides a crash course on the development of malebodybuilding from theslightly obese strong men of mid-19th century carnivals and fairs to thesudden and revolutionary switch to more defined and muscular "strongmen". In the book are priceless photos of the great Eugen Sandow andTony Sansone. The photos of Tony Sansone alone are worth the price of thisbook. Important historicaldocument. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally - leather realism that makes sense!!
David Stein has done a remarkable job with Carried Away. Leathermen finally have a book that makes sense about the reality, intricacy, emotions, dedication, commitment and personal journey of a consensual dominant/submissive master/slave relationship. This is not a "how to" book, it's a book written with heart and spirit that will touch you and have you thinking about the "why" or "why nots" regarding living the life of a Master or slave. The sex scenes David Stein writes about are HOT - but loaded with such reality you can actually envision yourself doing everything he writes about in real life - because - you can !!! The courtship of Terry (the Master) and Matt (the slave) is romantic but carefully and thoughtfully enveloped by the courage they have to acknowledge and embrace they journey they embark on.David Stein, thank you for Carried Away and sharing it with us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Time To Bury Mr Benson.
I was never a fan of John Preston's "classic" work because I thought the characters were broad and unrealistic, the situations silly and the stereotypes contemptible. Like most fantasy books about D/s relationships, the main characters seem completely removed from life as we know it. What about the usual day to day, like jobs and family? Cleaning the catbox? Laundry? Cooking? The kind of things that real Dominant and submissives do in real time? Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy
Sean Michael is one of my must buys.Everything he writes is worth reading.I've never read an author that makes their characters live and breathe the way he does.you feel like you should be able to email the characters after you're done with the story. This story is no exception.Trip and Bones are a great couple. If you like romance, suspense, and a just all around great entertainment you'll love this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but...
I am often frustrated with this writer's works. I know his writings are suppose to be gay eroticas but he does have a talent for coming up with interesting characters and plots. It is a pity the characters and plots are often secondary to and crowded by the sex scenes. Yes the sex scenes are wild and steamy but when there are too much they can get pretty repetitive and boring. Tripwire is no exception. Bones and Trip are interesting characters, a doctor and merc trying to survive against the odds in a hostile environment. Unfortunately any meaningful character and plot building has to give way to the sex. Tripwire will be a much better read if the sex scenes is toned down. On the other hand this is gay erotica. However I cannot help but be wishful for more serious gay romance from this writer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wildly Passionate
Bones is a doctor working in the jungle. Trip is one of a group of guns for hire that arrive at Bones' hospital camp looking for treatment for a sick kid. Trip and Bones get to know each other while walking to the river for a bath. Once there, they are quickly wrapped around each other making love. Their affair is extremely passionate right away. Trip's line of work can have him gone for months or even years at a time though, but he always comes back to his lover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love is Joy
Dan and Trent fell in love with each other in a whirlwind, despite big secrets each was keeping inside. They were opposites in so many ways, but they each clearly found the other overwhelmingly attractive and they each found overwhelming joy in each other. When the secrets each was hiding came out, their love was badly shaken but withstood even that challenge.Add several interesting supporting characters, some hot (and incredibly sweet) sex scenes (that a big hunk of masculine man like Dan could so willingly surrender himself to Trent in their sex was amazing), and you get a fun read.It also has a wonderfully optimistic and upbeat message.I've read this book three or four times now (I've lost count), and I've enjoyed it even more each time I've read it.If you liked any of the other "Romentics" novels from Scott and Scott, you'll like this one as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sexy and Satisfying
SPARE PARTS is another of the Romentics novels, and it is a winner. The story line is feasible, the characters are realistic, and the plot line sizzles. The romantic scenes between the protagonists is very rewarding, and the injected comedy and "reality check" offered by an aged but wise female senior citizen smacks of truth. The demise of the villan in the story makes the reader once again come to the ages old concept that the good guys, no matter how long it takes, will always win. This is fun reading. ... hot men, great little side stories, poems etc. make this an awesome book. tom bianchi is simply one of the greatest nude male photographers ever and this book helps prove that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tom is the man, appreciate the legend.
We almost got a full bio on "The Tom Bianchi" out of this book, "I still await that"! This book takes us on a trip that so many of us have or are journeying through. I really enjoyed this book, (being able to relate was wonderful). Tom has a poetic side to him that shows more in this book than the others i have read. I think he has a great thing going for him and look forward to more of his work. To be able to express love and admiration to another is what life should reflect more of, Tom did a fine job with it in this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "If You Believe"
"All I Want For Christmas" is not as strong as "Summer Share". However I am rating it 5 stars because of "If You Believe" by Mann, which is one of his best efforts to date. Mann is one of my favorite writers and "If You Believe" is a treasure. Hauntingly beautiful, it is written with a poignancy and honesty which just tugs at my heart. Yes Mann, I wish I have my own merman too. "An Extra Large Christmas" is fun and Kenry does not disappoint. I was least impressed with Jeffrey's and Tyler's efforts as I never like stories with "Hollywood" influence. Yet "All I Want For Christmas" still shines because of one gem, "If You Believe"

4-0 out of 5 stars Twosie Beats Onesie, but Nothing Beats Threes!
Jeeze -- I've been in a committed love relationship for over 23 years, but this book made me ache to be in a Triad, not only for the sex but also for the emotional contribution of two other partners to the relationship as a whole!(Obviously, such a scenario requires the RIGHT partners.)The sex was more than hot (involved about 70% of the book), and the variations in sex roles was awesome, but the plot line was also gripping and moving. When their relationship "clicked," each of the three guys contributed something essential to the other two.I am not certain that the original relationship between Rock and Rigger would've survived the events of this book without Dick. The emotional bonds between the three were badly shaken by the violence against Rig; that they would work their way through the shattering effects was in serious doubt for much of the book. When they finally did manage to put the parts of their relationship back together, this reader was warmed and happy with the results. The small steps forward, sometimes followed by steps backward and threats of break-up were thoroughly credible.Strongly recommended for both the sex scenes and the plot line.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Much Better Read Than the First Jarheads Novel
Rigger, Rock and Dick are back. This second novel in the Jarheads series is much better than the first. The characters are much more developed, and there is an interesting storyline involving the gay bashing of Rigger.Of course there is still a lot of sex, but now there's a clear emotional bond shared amongst these three men.If you liked the first book in this series, then you will definitely enjoy this book as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't get enough of Sean Michael
Rock, Rigger, and Dick are as close as ever. Their relationship is going strong. They are happy and really comfortable with each other. Then the unimaginable happens. Rock and Dick get a call in the middle of the night telling them that Rigger has been badly hurt. He was attacked by a group of hateful marines because he is gay. Rigger's injuries are severe and his recovery is going to be a long painful process for him. Slowly Rigger's physical wounds start to heal, but the emotional scars left behind start to wear him down.

I just wrote a long review but somehow messed up and lost it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gay Literature At Its Best !
I just finished "Where The boys Are" by William Mann. Truly one of the most enjoyable reads of it's genre. I only wish I had known that it had a prequel, "Men From The Boys". However, since I so thoroughly enjoyed this book I have already purchased the prequel and Mr. Mann's newest novel "All American Boy". I am sure to become one of this author's most avid fans.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as The Men from the Boys
This continues after Men from the Boys ended, and continues, and continues....there is a lot of repetition, especially between Jeff and Lloyd who are reconciling and then not, over and over again. The same themes are rehashed several times, especially the "we are all connected/family" bit.

2-0 out of 5 stars initial promise, but in the end not a lot to grab attention here
The ideas brewing behind the words of Flesh's novel show promise: an unemployed, AIDS-infected man wakes on the morning of the third anniversary of his lover's death and is visited by devotees of the cult of Michael. Religious atonement becomes a homoerotic embrace as the cultists mix religious dogma with unadulterated love (physical as well as forgiving), and our protagonist Stephen is suddenly faced with the very real possibility that End Time is near, and with it the promise of seeing his dead lover, Robert, again. As the novel continues, war in Russia becomes more and more probable, a war that might take the world down with it. Stephen sees this world as corrupt and not worth saving - his neighborhood dominated by drug dealers and the bars littered with gay sluts who would rather suck off a ring of willing participants than take an aging gay man home and show him some love.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not So Great
This author won a Lambda Literary Award for another book called MASSAGE in 1999 (perhaps I should have read that one). This book called MICHAEL wasn't a big HIT for me (I was hopeful since my name is Michael). It's more like a short story about a middle-aged gay man who is trying to find meaning in his life as he is about to 'follow the Light' to his death and be reunited to those he loves in the Heavens. There are some incidents that are brushed upon that clearly make him feel guilty about the way he (Stephen, the main character) lives his life.It got into a Christian religious tangent mixed with some homoerotic parts that weren't really necessary. Then, there's this whole 'end of the world' scenario with a nuclear bombing in Russia and planes disappearing & crashing in NY & elsewhere (a bit sinister since this was published in 2000--prior to 9-11-01).It's almost like the author is writing a story for himself about how he hopes the circumstances will be when he dies. When I think of this it makes it a bit more interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly haunting novel
I love and am haunted by this book because of the way Flesh is able to convince me that the end of the world really will happen on a hot Sunday in the Village -- that we will ascend, intertwined with our memories. The beauty and poignance of Michael are sometimes too much to bear. As with Flesh's other work, this is an exploration of loneliness, perfectly pitched -- Flesh knows the way cigarette smoke looks floating out a bedroom window, and the desperation of a man whose loved ones have ceased to be. And yet, at the end, there's salvation -- or seems to be. Anyway, Flesh has recently been compared to Burroughs and Genet, but in his deepest explorations of the stark human soul reminds me more of the late Richard Yates. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Massage is icky-good fun!
I started to review 'Michael', the new novella from 1999 Lambda Literary Award winner Henry Flesh, but I could only compare it unfavorably to the novel for which he won the award - the refreshingly brutal and extra-creepy 'Massage'. 'Michael' is, sadly, poorly realized and the illustrations sucked. So, I changed horses.4-0 out of 5 stars Massage from the Masseur
Henry Flesh's MASSAGE is quite a worthy read in that it does reflect the reality of clannish big-city gay lifestyles with all the harsh edges.I didn't feel like jumping out a window (as I did after reading Holleran'sTHE BEAUTY OF MEN or his GROUND ZERO) because Henry Flesh gives us thebeautiful Randy to dream along with as he experiments with sex, drugs, andself-psychotherapy through personal writing.Just as reality is one ofthis novel's merits, the very same reality is unsettling to those of us whoneed to escape from the "sweetness" (one of Flesh's nicknames forAIDS) that is closing in us.Curiously refreshing was the subtlemanipulation of Flesh's progression of character evolution.I found myselfswitching sides and opinions about the other characters just as Randy doesand as we all do as our lives progress.Enjoy it with a Mona Lisa smile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chilling and brilliant
I read "Massage" after I learned that it had been nominated for a Lammy, and although at times it disturbed and upset me, I was in the end greatly moved, in a way that I haven't been by a contemporary novel in avery long time, probably since the early '60s when I first becameacquainted with the works of Hubert Selby, Jr. and John Rechy. This is abook that must be read. I hope it acquires a very large readership. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly emotional!
I am not into dominance/submission/bondage/affliction stories as they seem cold and even offensive. However deviations:submission is a story with a heart. It is about 2 lonely men, Tobias and Noah, who need each other to love and nurture. It took a while to be comfortable with their dominant/submssion master/slave sex interplay. But one does understand "why" and appreciate the underlying emotions throughout.

5-0 out of 5 stars a favourite already
This is a wonderful, sexy book. The dynamic between a dominant and a submissive man is thoroughly explored--showing that both of them have needs and desires that the other can fulfil.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shock and Awe
This book breaks the mold of literature about lust and love between men to examine the real issues behind that love as well as its highest possibilities. Its honesty is shocking, and its display of virtuoso intelligence is awesome. At the same time it is a detailed step by step how-to book for tantra.A monumental achievement for our generation. If you have any interest in the possibilites of sexual realization of any kind, read this book

5-0 out of 5 stars contemporary discussion of an ancient tradition
The authors present in the letter writing form documentation of their individual searches and discuss the contemporary meaning and practice of ancient tantra philosophy.Sometimes profound in insight, always entertaining, the book travels from the "scat" and leather subculture to a Himalayan monestary. The book is compelling in its candor and in its overall attempt at discussing a topic usually presented in arcane terms. The different paths of the two authors also illustrates the variations within tantra, the challenge to and the struggle of the modern gay subculture to understand and bring into practice philosophical and spiritual roots.A great book that I highly recommend to anyone seeking greater understanding of tantra, to learn about others struggle to bring the practice into their lives and particularly gay lives (although I think the book has relevance to every orientation) and to see the range of emotions, efforts and life experiences that are reflected in this vast topic. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Sequel not as good as "Looking for Trouble"
I agree with Tar's review.I was frustrated with this "sequel" to "Looking".I noticed a lot of proofing errors, which is highly annoying for such a good writer. The first book was much better at setting up hot encounters and delivering great action.March seems distracted from his writing this time.I don't know whether he was under time pressure to crank something out or that he just lost his 'mojo' on what make mid-to-late 20-somethings excited but I'd recommend taking the time to craft an excellent story collection like "Looking" was.Far better to do quality work than just become a story mill.I'll give him another chance if he comes out with a third set of stories.

3-0 out of 5 stars Looking for Trouble was better
The first collection by March (Looking for Trouble) was great - hot varied action of post-teens. Hard is much shorter and the action is less varied. It's as if the author has lost touch with what turns on young guys. There are some good stories but often you feel unreleased at the end of most selections.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its title
March is a fun writer.I bought "Hard" based solely on the fact that I enjoyed "Looking for Trouble" a whole lot.And "Hard" does not disappoint. It's not always quite as hot as "Trouble" but there are some fun stories. ... Read more
