wish I had gotten it at the library
This work was well-drawn, as is all of Bechdel's work.It was also incredibly boring, kind of aimless, self-absorbed catharsis.I also thought we'd get to know more about her father's life, thoughts, feelings...along with hers.
Not your typical family. Terrific drawings.

What a fabulous find
I stumbled into this book and couldn't be happier about it.I knew nothing about Alison Bechdel other than what I read in the author's blurb on the dust cover so I certainly wasn't brought to the book by the lesbian aspect.Nor had I ever read a memoir graphic so that wasn't a hook either.

Definitely kept my attention
This was my first E. Lynn Harris novel.I bought it because it was the only African American fiction at the airport I was in at the time.I completely finished the book over the course of my roundtrip flights, so it is definitely a page turner.Light, easy reading to take your mind off things.

I love E. Lynn Harris!I own every book he's written and have been to all his book signings.This book was boring and seemed really personal.This is the worst book he's written.I still love E. Lynn though!

A thought-provoking collection of Mapplethorpe's sex picture
This collection of pictures is bound in a good quality cover and printed on a glossy paper of reasonable quality. One word: Ouch
You can always debate whether this book is "art" or not, but thefact is I am worried about what happened to some of the subjects. Helmut? Are you okay?I think Mapplethorpe wanted to shock, and he did, but Ifound the pictures had too much pain in them to be appreciated.I wasdeadened to what Mapplethorpe wanted to say, if he wanted to say anythingat all.Ouch, ouch, ouch.

Too Much With No Warning
Too much "alternative" sex that I was unprepared for--I stopped at disc 8.The cover on my version from the public library has a pair of pink shoes on it, which I kept wondering if they were going to have something to do with the title.I have wondered why male crossdressing is so popular, why not female?That's why I got the book, I guess.It somewhat answered my question--it used to be popular.What's in swings out and vice versa.It's a pendulum effect.

Extraordinary
A story to touch the heart. The love, passion, heartache and joy are just the beginning. Waters is the finest of storytellers. Get the movie! It is as good as the book!

Love, Sex, and Basketball!
This book is wonderful. Romancing the Zone is a classic book where the main message is dreams and family are the most important in life. You can achieve the impossible if you are in the right frame of mind. Kenna White tells the story of a single mother with dreams of finishing college and her final year of playing womens basketball. Can Liz balance her real life (owning and running her restraunt and keeping tabs on her 19 year old daughter)and shooting hoops and maintaining a near perfect grade point average in college? Not to mention the hots that she may have for her and her daughter's coach...Sheridan Ross. Coach Ross has her own issues: being new head coach and turning last years team into winners. Plus, will her feelings for Liz be enough to keep her around for another season with the Lady Stingers or will she move on to a bigger pond? This book has a sweet story with big secrets. Liz has a few of those...will she tell or not? You will fall in love with all of the characters. This book is very well written which makes an easy read! RTZ is loaded with humor, love, sex, secrets, and basketball! A great combination! This book is well worth the time...which it didn't take long because you don't want to put it down.

Playing with Heart
There are lots of novels in this genre, dozens and dozens.Some are very good; some are poorly written and edited, poorly presented, barely readable.Made for TV movies are sometimes good, sometimes sappy and romantic, sometimes very bad.Yet every once in a while, there's just nothing else on the tube, and we find ourselves sitting through the type of movie we normally wouldn't select: it's just not our type of story, it's a weepy romance.It's been done before.

Radclyffe Hasn't Written a Bad Book
I read this book for the first time in late 2003 and finished the paperback version last week to prepare for the next in the series to be released in 2005.I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel to Safe Harbor.Radclyffe takes the inexperienced, but faithful, Reese and the jilted Tory down the road of starting their own family.She also explores the relationship of the young lovers Brianna and Carre as they begin to cross over into adulthood.Radclyffe delivers turmoil, mystery, problems with pregnancy, relationship fears, and so much more.This book takes the reader on many emotional highs and lows, and is highly recommended by this reviewer. ... A Mixed Bag...
Julia Glass's Three Junes is a somewhat successful, somewhat disjointed narrative following a Scottish family through two generations, from their own perspective and from those of another whose life intertwines with theirs. The first part of the novel, 'Collies' is by far the strongest and describes how Paul both fell in love with and married Maureen and the aftermath of her death. The chronology, as others have noted, is slightly convoluted, but in this section it is much clearer than later in the novel. It is in these first few pages that I think Glass dazzled the National Book Award committee as her ability to subtley capture Paul's mourning as well as reveal a terrible secret really shows of her skills as an author; these skills, however, desert her in the other two parts of the novel. The second part of the novel is told in the first person through the eyes of Fenno, one of the three boys Paul and Maureen have. His story is by far the most interesting, but somewhat crudely done - the beautiful range of emotion that we experiences in the opening pages is replaced by something I still can't fully describe, other than say everything seems more clumsily done causing me to wonder why Glass even chose to continue her story, as the first part was published originally on its own. Fenno's role as caretaker to Mal, an opera and music critic often seems unbalanced. The final section finds us learning about some characters who we originally only see on the periphery of Fenno's narrative, who presumably are supposed to enhance our understanding of this family. Unfortunately, Glass seems to preoccupied with filling the pages with cliches about love and trying to leave the reader with some deeper understanding of live and relationships that she forgets to really finish her tale. I really do think she should have stopped the story after the first part.
Just okay
I was disappointed with the novel, based on the fact it was a National Book Award winner.Perhaps it was too "literary" for me, but I found myself not really caring about the characters.Although I'm far from a prude, I felt the parts about the gay character was way more than I needed/wanted to know.
Three Junes -Where did They Get That Name?
Sometime ago I read my Sunday paper and noted that "Three Junes" was listed as a popular book choice.The title sounded interesting so I bought it.That was 2 months ago and I am still trying to get through the paperback edition.It is difficult to follow the timeline, to understand the characters and where they fit, and to get involved in the storyline.I will finish the book because that's my style.It has not been a book that I could not wait to get back to.

Hoping for moreJake
This just doesn't make 4 stars, although I was rooting for it."Lesbian" or not it's competition is the general genre of "cop" or "detective thriller", and in that category it doesn't make it as anything new or original; actually it abounds with sterotypes.Sadly, it was too predictable for me, but I fell for Jake.Yes, the scenery descriptions are wonderful, but that "ain't" why I read thrillers.They are "thrillers", after all!I underestand (I think) the role sex plays in novels of this kind, and Ms Hill writes her explicit scenes quite well, too well.They are of erotica not "romance."Explicitness for its own sake is fine and I enjoy it, but here it was over-the-top and unnecessary.We do not need descriptions of digital explorations to have a novel unfold.No pun intended.
THE BEST I'VE READ IN A LONG TIME
this is one of the best books I have read in a very long time, once I started reading I couldn't put it down. Loving the characters i'm hoping for a sequel.

Great mystery and romance in Denver and the woods of Colorado
"Jake" McCoy is a detective, who has taken some leave time after being injured in the line of duty and Nicole Westbrook is a psychologist and closeted lesbian. The two meet in the wilds of Colorado where Jake is recuperating and Nicole is vacating. Nicole is hopelessly lost when she meets Jake. Their attaction sizzles and they have great sex in a hot spring.

Touching
Once again Sarah Waters kept me enthralled, page after page.
Completely engrossing
I first read Sarah Waters book, Affinity, and had to read more of her work. I initially decided to go back to Tipping the Velvet but found something about Nan's narrative voice too similar to Margaret's and felt I needed a break from their meek, awkward, (sometimes girlish) obsessiveness and so decided to move to Fingersmith and return to Tipping the Velvet at another time. I am so glad I did! Fingersmith is a completely engrossing work of fiction with a bevy of unusual characters and unexpected twists that compell the reader forward - sometimes at a dizzying pace.
A tale of corruption and treachery
I've been indulging in historical novels lately, and one of the surprises that I have discovered is how much I have enjoyed the work of Sarah Waters. In particular, this book.

Quite Possibly Radclyffe's Best Book Ever...
`Fated Love' is quite possibly Radclyffe's best book ever.A pseudo-sequel, but more appropriately a companion piece to `Passion's Bright Fury,' this novel introduces Rad's most colorful, well-developed, and unforgettable characters.
It'll make you melt.
Radclyffe is one of the best authors of romance around.

0% believable - 100% fun
This fun, racy, raunchy who-dunnit is all of what it promises to be.It's the type of early 20th century English mystery that Agatha Christie would have turned out if she'd been born a gay man.There's just enough of a mystery plot to keep it from being total porn and just enough of the porn to keep it from being boring.
What Do the English Do at Home?
This book has all the elements to keep one entertained from the very beginning until the end; viz., this is a don't-put-me-down book until finished.It is well written and there are some surprises but still believable.I like this author and look forward to reading some of his future titles.It takes place in the 1920s and elucidates all the double-standards that was prevelant for the English "upper & lower crust" during that time period.If you liked Maurice by E. M. Forrester, you will also love this book.It is a good example of today's gay and lesbian literature.

Is Infidelity Every Excusable?
One could spend an inordinate amount of time trying to answer the question... "Is infidelity ever excusable?"When you're in a relationship with someone the answer should be obvious, right?Maybe not.Through this emotional story MacGregor, one of my top 5 favorite authors, explores all sides of the issue.And, she does it so covertly the reader doesn't know she's been had until she's in love with both protagonists.
A well told story
This is not a new story, but it is one told with style.One of the nice points is that MacGregor takes her time dealing with the issues between her characters.MacGregor gives her characters time to develop their relationship and then more time to deal with the problems that arise between them.They don't disagree one day and suddenly realize the next that they are soul mates meant to be together no matter what has happened between them.MacGregor also manages to make both characters human and people that a reader can relate to.Wynne has made some bad mistakes, but the reader will recognize how these occur in real life when people lose control of events in their lives.Paula's reactions are also perfectly understandable and ring true to experience.What this book demonstrates is a maturity of style and life.This isn't MacGregor's first novel and it shows that she is growing into her storytelling art.It's a pleasant read and a well told story.
KG does it again!
Somethings are not always how they really are. Do you overlook what you think the picture is about or do you trust your heart and take a risk? Is love worth it or do you throw yourself into your job so you don't have to find out? That is what this book is about in a nut shell. You will find yourself falling in love with these hardworking women. KG really brings out some great humor in this book. I really enjoyed it. Just This Once is a very easy, enjoyable read! Sexy
I took two books on my recent five day vacation. This one gave me an orgasm (I loved this book as you might guess), and because I'm going into the B&B business, I took along "I'm Living Your Dream Life" by Michele Cozzens. No orgasm, but did learn one hell of a lot about the B&B business. Both were very fun reads.

Turn Back Time
I have read 90% of Radclyffe books and I love them some more than others.This book because I am in the medical field felt real.The love between the women as usual in her books seems geninue.I loved it!

Drama in the Medical World!

A fine character study
Too Close To Touch is about a woman who has dedicated her life to trying to please "Daddy" and lost herself in the process.In becoming successful in her career, she has bottled up her emotions until she doesn't have any, except anger.Others have summarized the story, so I won't repeat that.Instead, let me tell you why you might want to read it.
